Where is Nigeria's $16bn power project? - Buhari inquires

The president has asked for the $16 billion (N5.76
trillion) power plant project authorised by the last
three administration
- Buhari made the inquiry at the Presidential Villa on
Tuesday, May 22
President Muhammadu Buhari has inquired
about the $16 billion (N5.76 trillion) power
project authorised by former president Olusegun
Obasanjo, Daily Trust reports.
Speaking while receiving members of the Buhari
Support Group, led by the comptroller general of
the Nigerian Customs Service, Ahmed Ali, the
president said he wondered where the power
project is since its launch.
Although the president did not mention
Obasanjo's name, the former president had
during his tenure approved the spending of $16
billion on a power project.

However, in 2008, the House of Representatives
described the $16 billion spent on power as a
colossal waste. The lawmakers blamed such
'waste' on poor budget planning and a lack of
proper oversight by relevant bodies.
Also, a civil society organisation, Socio-Economic
Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), urged
the acting chief justice of Nigeria, Walter
Onnoghen, to launch an investigation into the
project.
SERAP in a statement issues in 2016 asked the
CJN to appoint an independent counsel to
investigate allegations of corruption in the
spending of $16 billion on electricity by
Obasanjo's government.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that the federal
government is set to establish a nuclear research
centre with ROSATOM.
The centre will offer nuclear technology and
knowledge, with which insects could be
controlled through: Sterile Insect Technique.

It was also gathered that the centre will mainly
benefit Nigeria's agricultural sector especially in
the production and safety of groups.

Metuh was asked to sit down but he decided to fall down on his own - Justice Abang

Justice Okon Abang has said that the former
spokesperson of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, fell down on
his own
- Abang at the resumed trial on Tuesday, May 22, said
he did not direct any doctor to attend to Metuh when
he collapsed before the court on Monday
- According to the judge, he rose briefly upon hearing
that the defendant fell down on his own
A judge of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja
has suggested that the former national publicity
secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
Olisa Metuh, is faking 'ill health'.
Justice Okon Abang said Metuh deliberately fell
down as the court’s proceedings were about to
start on Monday, May 21.
Punch reports that Justice Abang at the resumed
hearing of the N400 million suit against Metuh
by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission on Tuesday, May 22, said, "the first
defendant fell down on his own".

While speaking on a submission made by the
defence counsel, Tochukwu Onwubufor, for an
adjournment of the matter due to his client's
absence, Abang said the court did not direct any
doctor to treat Metuh.
The judge said: “The court did not direct the doctor to
attend to the defendant. I would not know the person that
directed the doctor to see the defendant when I rose briefly
upon hearing that the defendant fell down on his own.
“The court directed him to sit down where he was but he
decided to fall down on his own," Abang added.

The judge also interrupted the prosecuting
counsel to make the same clarification when the
prosecution was opposing the request for
adjournment by the defence.
Metuh is absent from today's ruling over ill
health issues.

earlier reported that Metuh during his
hearing on Monday, May 21 , fell down while
trying to enter the dock.
It was gathered that the former PDP
spokesperson was immediately attended to by a
doctor residing within the court.

Following the collapse of the former PDP
spokesperson, the trial judge, stood down the
matter to enable medical officials attend to him.
The medical officials who entered the courtroom
at 9.19am were still attending to Metuh till about
9.25 am before directing that he be taken to the
hospital for immediate attention.

2018 Budget: Why NASS included additional funding for Primary Healthcare - Tejuoso

The reason why the National Assembly included
funding for basic health in the 2018 Appropriations
Bill has been revealed
- Senator Lanre Tejuoso said it was a clear
demonstration of the commitment and responsiveness
of the 8th Senate
- He said he hopes Nigeria's health care system will be
a model for other African countries
Chairman, Senate committee on health, Senator
Lanre Tejuosho has revealed why the National
Assembly, included funding for the Basic
Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) in the 2018
Appropriations Bill.
In a press statement to NAIJ.com on Monday, May
21, Senator Tejuoso stated that: “While the Executive
did not include the BHCPF in the 2018 Appropriation Bill
submitted to the National Assembly, the Senate embarked
upon a phenomenal task of ensuring the inclusion of BHCPF
in the 2018 appropriation and its effective implementation.”
According to him, the Senate mandated its
committee on appropriation to work out a
modality for accommodating the fund in the 2018
appropriation.

He also informed that his committee through the
Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the legislative
network on Universal Health Care (UHC) held
series of sensitization, capacity building and
media parleys to galvanize support towards
implementation of the BHCPF and reiterate the
commitment of the National Assembly towards
the cause.
Tejuoso added that the push to ensure that there
was increased funding in the 2018 budget was a
clear demonstration of the commitment and
responsiveness of the 8th Senate, under the
leadership of Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate
President, who is also a medical doctor, to ensure
that the healthcare needs of Nigerians are met.
“I am happy to inform you that the Senate President and
the Senate committee on health have lived up to their
promise to Nigerians by including the BHCPF in the 2018
Appropriation Bill. By this important milestone, we have
demonstrated our collective and sustained will to harness
and align our human and other resources towards
transforming the health landscape in Nigeria.
“We have to remain vigilant to ensure that nothing scuttles
our collective will towards actualizing the dream of
affordable universal health care for all Nigerians. It is my
vision that one day, Nigeria health care system will be a
model for other African countries and the country will be a
reputable destination for medical tourism,” the senator,
who is also a trained medical doctor said.

Meanwhile, the director general of the WHO, Dr.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has commended
Saraki, on his commitment towards ensuring that
Nigeria’s primary healthcare system is
strengthened by the inclusion of one per cent of
the country’s Consolidated Revenue Fund is used
to provide basic primary healthcare services
across the nation.
Dr. Ghebreyesus who commended the Senate
president in a tweet on his personal Twitter
handle, @DrTedros, also stated that political will
is needed to provide universal healthcare
coverage.

Addiction: PCN starts recall of codeine cough syrup

Following federal government's directive, the
Pharmacists Council of Nigeria has started recalling
cough syrup containing codeine from its stakeholders
- Regulatory bodies were directed by the minister of
health, Professor Isaac Adewole, to supervise the
recall
- This is because the drug is being abused by some
Nigerian consumers
The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) says it
has started recalling cough syrup containing
codeine from its stakeholders in compliance with
federal government's directive.
The registrar of PCN, Elijah Mohammed, revealed
this in an interview with the News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, May 19 in Abuja.
The minister of health, Professor Isaac Adewole,
had directed PCN, NAFDAC and other regulatory
bodies to supervise the recall of codeine from the
market, NAN reports.
NAIJ.com notes that Mohammed reaffirmed that
codeine is an opioid drug similar to morphine
which has been approved and accessed over the
counter in low doses for relieving patients of
symptoms associated with dry cough.

According to the registrar, codeine in such
preparation, usually in smaller doses, serves as a
cough suppressant and relieves pain associated
with the stress of coughing.
He said: “However, due to its inherent properties when
used in high doses over a long period, it has been associated
with dependence and powerful addictive propensity
especially when used for recreational purpose."
Mohammed noted that the council in view of the
ministerial directive has carried out enforcement
exercise in Ogun, Sokoto and Nasarawa states,
adding that same activities were currently going
on in Adamawa.
The registrar noted that the council had met with
the leadership of the National Association of
Patent and Proprietary Medicines Vendors
(PPNVs), among other stakeholders, in the
pharmaceutical industry in order to facilitate the
recall.
Mohammed, who emphasised that codeine
containing cough preparation was not included
in the approved medicines list of PPMVs,
however urged them to desist from the sales of
codeine and other unethical drugs in order to
guard against sanctions.
According to him, the council as part of efforts to
rid off codeine in the society had also met with
the leadership of the Association of Community
Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) and they made a
strong commitment to enforce the recall process
as well.
the registrar said: “In continuation of various efforts of
implementing the ministerial directives, PCN enforcement
team has been strengthened to ensure strict compliance
with regulations and extant policies as they relate to the
council’s mandate.
“PCN is the agency of the federal government established by
Cap P17 LFN 2004 and charged with the responsibility of
controlling and regulating pharmacy education, training
and practice in all aspects and ramifications."
Mohammed, however, appealed to
manufacturers, importers and distributors of
drugs to display more sense of ethical and moral
responsibilities in the production, supply and
sales of codeine.
He added: “Economic interest and financial
considerations should not override the health implications
associated with the abuse of these preparations. The health
of Nigerians must come first before any other interest."

Meanwhile, adegokblog .com previously reported that the
National Agency for Food and Drug
Administration and Control (NAFDAC) was
directed by the federal ministry of health to ban
with immediate effect further issuance of
permits for the importation of codeine as active
pharmaceutical ingredient for cough syrup
preparations.
This was contained in a statement on Tuesday,
May 1 by the minister of health, Professor Isaac
Adewole.

Sokoto court remands Shagari, 4 PDP chieftains in police custody over N500m money laundering

- A Federal High Court in Sokoto has remanded Alhaji
Mukhtari Shagari, and some top officials of the PDP in
police custody
- The suspects were accused of misappropriating about
N500 million
- Their case has been adjourned to Thursday, May 24,
by Justice Saleh Idrissa, the presiding judge
A former deputy governor of Sokoto, Alhaji
Mukhtari Shagari, and four chieftains of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been
remanded by a Federal High Court sitting in the
state which was presided over by Justice Saleh
Idrissa on Tuesday, May 22, over alleged money
laundering
The looted fund amounted to N500 million from
former petroleum minister Diezani Alison-
Madueke’s alleged loot, This Day reports.

The rest four suspects were Ibrahim Gidado, the
former state commissioner for information, the
party's state treasurer, Nasiru Dalhatu, its
chairman Ibrahim Milgoma and Abdallah Wali, a
PDP governorship candidate in the 2015 election.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) prosecuting counsel, Johnson Ojogbane,
said the it preferred the five-count charge
against the accused persons bordering on money
laundering and cash transaction outside
regulated financial institution which contravened
Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011 and
punishable under section 16 (2) (b) of the act.

Sokoto (Photo Credit: EFCC)
Ojogbane said that the offences were committed
in March 2015, and the money was handed over
to the accused persons by one Abdulrahman
Ibrahim a day before the polls.
He said: “The Money Laundering Prohibition Act frowns
on money laundering and financing of illegal activities.
"There is a threshold to transact a cash business and when
you cross that threshold, it is an offence and there is
punishment for that. This issue has to do with the N500
million Diezani money that was given out for elections.”
Ojogbane further said that the charges came with
the affidavits, list of witnesses, summary of
evidences as well as proof of evidence.
However, after the reading of the charges, the
accused persons pleaded not guilty, denying the
allegations.
In reaction to this, Ojogbane opposed their
application for bail because the administrative
bail ended when they were served with charge
sheets.
He pleaded with the court to adhere to due
processes and sought for adjournment to
commence full trial.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the counsel to Gidado and
Dalhatu and Milgoma, applied for an interim bail
for the accused persons pending the moving of
formal bail application filed by the defendants.
Abdullahi said that the defendants had been on
EFCC administration bail since 2016, emphasising
that the accused were not likely to endanger any
investigation.

Ibrahim Idris and Aiyelabegan Abdulkadiri,
counsel to Shagari and Wali respectively, aligned
themselves with Abdullahi’s submission on
granting the accused persons bail in continuation
of the administrative bail granted earlier.
Justice idrissa, therefore, adjourned the case to
Thursday, May 24, for hearing of bail application
for the accused persons and ordered that they
should be remanded in police custody in Sokoto.
Earlier, adegokblog .com had reported that Shagari, and
the PDP chiefs were to be arraigned before a
Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto on Tuesday,
May 22.

in Jos, during a press conference where he
briefed journalists on the activities of the party.
Dabang said: “The minister of youth and sport
development, Barrister Solomon Dalung, has never attended
any of our meetings since he was appointed minister in
spite of several invitations to our meetings.

“During the ward congresses, the minister was in Daura, in
Kastina state. If the president of the country, President
Buhari, can go to his party ward to participate in the
congresses, I wonder what the minister was doing in the
country home of the president.”
The APC chairman also said the minister did not
attend the just concluded state congress of the
party held last Saturday in Jos.

The APC state congress in Plateau state were held
under tight security. The state governor, Simon

text massages sent to him via his mobile
telephone about 24 hours ago.
Meanwhile, adegokblog .com had reported that the
Plateau state chapter of the APC denied
endorsing Governor Simon Bako Lalong for
second term in 2019.
The state chairman of the party, Latep Dabang,
made the statement on Sunday, April 15, when
reassuring all governorship aspirants of a level
playing ground ahead of the APC primary
election.
The APC leader said despite the standing ovation
Lalong received from stakeholders when he
declared his intention to seek a second term, the
governor will not be given an automatic ticket.

Breaking: Olisa Metuh collapses in court

Former national publicity secretary of the PDP, Olisa
Metuh, has collapsed in court
- As a result of this, Justice Okon Abang had to stand
down the matter to enable medical officials attend to
him
- It was reported that medical officials who entered
the courtroom at 9.19am were still attending to him at
about 9.25am
Olisa Metuh, a former national publicity
secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
has collapsed in court on Monday, May 21.
Metuh is being prosecuted by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over
allegation that he fraudulently received a sum of
N400m in 2014 from the office of the National
Security Adviser (NSA).
Punch reports that the incident occurred about
9.01am in the courtroom and the trial judge,
Justice Okon Abang had to stand down the
matter to enable medical officials attend to the
defendant.

Going further, the news outlet reported
that medical officials who entered the courtroom
at 9.19am were still attending to him at about
9.25am., however gathered that Metuh was
already trying to access the box before the judge
asked him to come back, he fell as the walker he
was using slipped while he was trying to adjust
himself at the entrance of the dock.
The court registrar rushed to the medical
department to inform medics of the situation. A
Dr from the court examined him where he was
writhing in pain and reported to the court that
he should be sent to a hospital
Meanwhile, adegokblog .com had reported that a
presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, mocked the
former ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
over Olisa Metuh's appearance in court.
Onochie, a personal adviser to President
Muhammadu Buhari on social media, described
what happened in the court as something to
complement Nollywood.
“Weak, tired and bandaged to the neck on a stretcher and
ambulance to complement the Nollywood drama,” she
said.
However, the second vice president of the
Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Monday
Onyekachi Ubani, described Metuh’s appearance
in court as unfortunate and “not too good.”

“I am aware that some of the accused persons facing
criminal trials, especially high profile corruption cases in
Nigeria feign ill health most times in order to delay their
trials for reasons best known to them but the picture of
Olisa Metuh as he was brought to court today in Abuja to
continue his trial appeared not too good."

Buhari has the right to visit Rivers state - Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state says President
Buhari is welcome to visit Rivers state
- He insists Rivers state is not faced with security
challenges and does not need presidential solidarity
visit
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has
denied saying President Muhammadu Buhari
was not welcomed to visit the state.
Wike made the statement on Monday, May 21,
when he he appeared on Channels TV
programme, Sunrise Daily.
He said President Buhari had the right to visit
Rivers state but not if its a solidarity visit due to
insecurity.

He said: “ I never said that President Buhari should not
come to Rivers State and I can never say it. The President is
the President of the country. He has the right to come to
Rivers State.”
The governor stated that Rivers state is not faced
with security challenges and does not need
presidential solidarity visit.
He said: " What I disagreed with is that, if you (Buhari)
are coming because of insecurity. No. An armed robber
operated and killed 15 people. This is not the same thing
that daily herdsmen are attacking people and could lead to
religious or ethnic war. That is the point I made.
“For example in Lagos State, armed robbers have killed
about five people at a time. In Ogun State, people have died,
cultists have killed people. So, I never said that the
President should not come to Rivers State and I can never
say that.”

the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom
Wike, has alleged that there are plans to
assassinate him in a crowd and claim accidental
discharge.
The governor while speaking at the third year
anniversary thanksgiving service of his
administration at the Living Faith Church in Port
Harcourt on Sunday, May 20, said there are
intelligence reports available to support his
claims.
Wike said no level of intimidation by the All
Progressives Congress or the federal government
would deter him for carrying out his
responsibility as the governor of Rivers state,
Punch reports.

Dino Melaye breaks silence on failed attempt to recall him

Embattled senator, Dino Melaye, has finally broken
his silence after weeks of keeping mum, saying he has
bounced back.
Melaye representing Kogi West at the National
Assembly, in a message tagged, " THANK YOU
NIGERIANS" posted to Daily Trust via WhatsApp,
said he would continue to speak the truth.
It reads: "Someone once said that rock bottom is good
solid ground and a dead-end street is just a place to turn
around. In the last few weeks, I have been taken to the good
solid ground at the rock bottom and they couldn’t go
further.
I have been brought to the dead-end street but with you
standing by my side, I have turned around and bounced
back to the chagrin of those who sought to seal my lips
from speaking out against tyranny, politics of oppression
and blackmail.
"They, unleashed an endless barrage of physical,
psychological, metaphysical and emotional torture and
assault on me, but, through the power of the Most High,
and you the good people of Nigeria, we have once again,
seen the triumph of truth over lies and good over evil.

"It was Edmund Burke who was quoted as saying that when
bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will
fall one by one.... In a contemptible struggle. I am of all
men, a blessed man, to have courageous and dependable
people like you as my fellow soldiers in the struggle to free
us from the shackles of political strongholds and tyranny. It
is to you and my most wonderful and ever knowledgeable
people of Kogi State, especially Kogi West, that I owe my
deepest gratitude. You stood by me against the state and
your own ‘best political self-interest’.
"The state unleashed its raw power on me and released a
200 man-strong fully armed policemen - on a man without
a knife nor a bullet. It did this because I called injustice by
its name and called for accountability. For this they sought
to break my spirit and destroy me permanently.
"In their moment of reign, I was fully shackled. With my
hands tied to my back, and hurled into a dark solitary
confinement waiting for the butchers knife, you, my people
stood by me. You came against a raging fire and stood up
against tyranny, lies, filthy lucre, injustice, persecution and
greed."
On the failed move to recall him, Melaye said:
"While in the dark and unable to fight for myself, they
sought to take my mandate, which you had freely given to
me. But you answered back and quenched deceit in its
wake. You stood resolute and unflinching and defended your
mandate to me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
In their attempt to break me, they have made me stronger.
"To you my indefatigable leaders; my irremovable President
of the Senate, a man of immeasurable vision for Nigeria and
true fighter for the enthronement of true democracy and the
rule of law, Sen. (Dr.) Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
"The fearless Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt.
Hon. Yakubu Dogara, I thank you both for your
steadfastness in the defence of the Nigerian Constitution and
the enthronement of the Rule of Law, justice and equity and
the emasculation of anti-democratic forces and tyranny
everywhere in Nigeria. I am eternally grateful to you.
"To the entire National Assembly Membership, especially
my colleagues in the Senate, I am eternally indebted to you
for not playing politics but standing courageously against
oppression and terror. You have shown yourself leaders on
whom Nigeria’s hope for tomorrow can be assured."

Reaffirming his position, he said: " To my people, I
promise you this and this only. I have taken my position, I
will not hold back, I will not hold my peace, I will not be
shut down, neither will I shut-up, not as long as injustice
and falsehood continues to reign, as long as I will live, I will
not bow to Baal ."
In a previous report by NAIJ.com, the lawmaker
representing Kogi west at the National Assembly,
Senator Dino Melaye, lamented over his situation
under the current administration of President
Muhammadu Buhari.
Melaye who subtly threw a dig at the current
administration in an Instagram message on
Sunday, May 20, posted that he was never
framed up for fighting former president Goodluck
Jonathan.
"I was never framed up for fighting Jonathan.Never
arraigned! Aluta continua victoria asata," the outspoken
senator said.

Not Too Young To Run movement gives Buhari 8 days ultimatum to sign age reduction bill

The Not Too Young To Run movement has given
President Muhammadu Buhari 8 days ultimatum to
sign the age reduction bill
- The movement gave the ultimatum today, Monday,
May 21 in a press conference in Abuja
- They warned the president that not signing the bill
will amount to political suic*de
The Not Too Young To Run movement has given
President Muhammadu Buhari 8 days ultimatum
to sign the age reduction bill.
The movement gave the ultimatum today,
Monday, May 21 during a press conference in
Abuja as concerns mount over the president's
refusal to assent to the bill 14 days after it got to
his officer from the National Assembly.
Section 58 of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999, (as
amended), provides inter alia 'the power of the
National Assembly to make laws shall be exercised by
bills passed by both the Senate and the House of
Representatives and, except as otherwise provided,
assented to by the president. '

The group stated that the imperative for youth
inclusion in the forthcoming 2019 general
elections is not a matter of debate but a
constitutional imperative for democratic
development.
The movement therefore demanded:
1. That the president gives his assent to the age
reduction bill within the next eight (8) days as a
democracy gift to young Nigerians whose only
demand is to be included in the democratic
process.
2. That the president fulfils his commitment to
youth development by assenting to the Not Too
Young To Run bill and the other constitutional
amendment bills.
“The movement also wishes to state here that the support
from the youth will only come if the Not Too Young To Run
bill is speedily passed into law,” the group said.
They stated that the 2019 elections present an
opportunity for young people in Nigeria to assert
their constitutional right not only as voters or
campaign merchants but as qualified electoral
candidates.
They informed that young people will only be
giving their support to political parties who
uphold internal party democracy to safeguard
the emergence of more youth candidates in the
2019 general elections.
Speaking further, one of the conveners of the
movement, Samson Itodo, said it will amount to
political suic*de if the president does not sign
the bill.
Young people in Nigeria constitute over 52 per
cent of voters in Nigeria and the president
himself acknowledged that young people
supported him in 2015.
Majority of the state Houses of Assemblies and
the National Assembly passed this bill which
means it enjoys wide support from Nigerians.
Delaying or not assenting to the bill is going
against the will of majority of the people.
Itodo urged the president to sign the bill and
open up the political space for young people to
participate in the political space.

, YIAGA Africa, a civil society group in
Abuja in partnership with INEC has commenced
a nationwide youth development meeting in a
bid to mainstream the participation of young
people and other marginalised groups in the
electoral process.
The youth consultation meetings which provides
a safe and collaborative space for youth to
contribute to the development of the INEC youth
strategy, kicked off early this month with over
400 young people cutting across various states in
Nigeria.

gushed about her man, stating that he is a doting
father. She noted that despite him being a loving
father, he can be firm when the occasion calls
for it.
She said: “2face is a very doting father. He loves his
children so much and he is very caring towards them. He
spends a lot of time with them and they play together a lot.
He can also be firm though when the occasion calls for it.
He is very involved in their lives. They have a very good
relationship and it is obvious to those around us.”

"2018 started with me finding out I was pregnant. When I
missed my period and my friend and I did a home
pregnancy test and it read positive, my friend began to cry
with happiness but I was just there staring at the stick like,
you’re not messing with me, are you? This is real and not a
joke on me, right? I refused to believe it and asked my
friend to drive me to a lab for another test. And there it was
confirmed, I was pregnant. Me, Linda, I am going to have
my own child. Please don’t wake me up from this lovely
dream..lol
So many women have had children, so what’s the big deal,
huh? Lol. Well, you see me, I’m somewhat of a different
case. There’s something about me that I have never talked
about publicly before and that’s the fact that I love children
so much (I took that from my dad), and I am particularly
obsessed with babies, and I mean that literally. Their
pureness, innocence, little beautiful faces, tiny hands and
soft cheeks make me just want to be around them.
I grew up in a compound with a lot of neighbours and
believe it or not, as a teenager/young woman, I was the
unofficial resident babysitter. I swear, ask my siblings. I
literally carried all the new born babies born in that
compound at a period of time until they grew up to a
certain age. Their mums used to come drop the babies at
our house whenever they were tired or wanted to go out,
this was, of course, to the annoyance of my family…lol."

"Linda also revealed that she would be having a bouncing
baby boy. In her post, she stated that she has already
started ordering baby things for him.
Sometimes when I’m lying down and I feel him moving
around inside me (he’s so hyper already, constantly moving
around…lol), I just get up and cradle my tummy and smile.
Lol. I can’t wait for these months to go by so I can meet
him. My own son!
Dear son, of every dream I have had, every achievement,
every milestone, out of all my accomplishments and titles,
all the money and worldly possession I have, nothing
compares to you. You are my greatest blessing, my gift
from heaven, my greatest dream realized. I love you more
than life itself and I can’t wait to meet you and give you so
many kisses. And of course, spoil you! You will hear 'I love
you' loud and clear so many times, you will beg me to stop.
I can't wait to hold you in my arms. .
I know I’m going to be the best mum ever! I was born for
this and I am finally ready! And now I want to do more,
achieve more, so lil man will be proud of his mama."

the process

the state’s police command, on Wednesday, May
16, for allegedly tying up two pupils of the school

Narrating the incident, the policeman stated: “I
was going to work this morning (Wednesday) when I saw
some cars parked by the roadside. I discovered that it was
because of some pupils that were tied to crosses.
“When I saw it, I parked and went to meet the proprietor of
the school. I introduced myself as a policeman and told him
to untie the pupils. He refused, saying there was nothing
anybody could tell him that would make him to release
them.
“When I tried to untie the pupils, the proprietor and his
teachers beat me up. Before I returned from picking
handcuffs from my car, they had grabbed a friend who was
with me, Omaje Iremi, and beaten him up with a horsewhip.
“I entered the school – with the help of some neighbours
who gathered around – to arrest him, but he refused to
follow me. I then called the divisional police officer of the
Itele Police Station and he sent some policemen to the
school, who took everybody to the station.”

The aforementioned DPO reportedly stated that
the proprietor did not take kindly to the fact that

Saraki vs IGP: Return suspects to Kwara - Judiciary to Police

The Police has been asked by the chief registrar of the
Kwara State Judiciary, to bring back some criminal
suspects who had been transferred to Abuja on
Wednesday, May 16.
The suspects were accused of being involved in
murder and criminal conspiracies; and the
spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force,
Jimoh Moshood, stated that they were
transferred to the nations’ capital for further
investigation into the matter, Vanguard reports. As

notes that Senate president Bukola
Saraki, however, alleged that the move was a
ploy by Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris
to frame him; and drew the attention of his
colleagues to the alleged plot at the Senate’s
plenary on Wednesday, May 16.
Saraki stated: “Investigation has been completed and
they were about to be under prosecution under the state law
on the advice of the DPP (Department of Public
Prosecution) and the (state) Ministry of Justice. All of a
sudden, the suspects were ordered to be transferred to
Abuja.”
Following the disclosure, Saraki subsequently led
nine senators to report the matter to President
Muhammadu Buhari.

Meanwhile, adegokblog .com previously reported that the
Police IG, Ibrahim Idis, responded to Dr Saraki’s
allegations .
Idris in a statement issued by Jimoh Moshood,
Police spokesman, said this was far from the
truth. He however admitted that some cultists in
Kwara state had confessed to killing some
persons and that according to Police procedure,
were transferred to Abuja.
He reminded the Senate president that
interfering in a police investigation remains a
crime; and said the Police will do its work,
regardless of those who may be involved.

Former president's son sentenced to 8 months in jail for stealing mobile phone

Frederick, the son of former president Frederick
Chiluba, has been convicted for stealing a mobile
phone
- A magistrate court sentenced him to eight months
imprisonment with hard labour
- Chiluba Junior, a former Zambia Air Force officer, is
facing one count of theft for allegedly stealing Brenda
Chisha's phone
The son of Zambia's second republic president
Frederick Chiluba was on Wednesday, May 16,
sentenced to eight months imprisonment with
hard labour for stealing a mobile phone by the
Lusaka magistrate court, Lusaka Times reports.
 gathered that the 34-year-old was
facing one count of theft for allegedly stealing
Brenda Chisha’s phone.
Frederick Chiluba Jr, a retired ZAF officer who
graduated in 2014, was convicted of stealing a
Samsung S7 edge, valued at K8,500 from Chisha,
on September 2, 2017 and traded it for drug in
Chibolya.

Chisha in her testimony, told magistrate Chabala
that she met Chiluba in Woodlands on September
2, 2017 and he asked to use her phone.
“I have known him for years and it was an S7 so I gave
him and he used it for two minutes then gave it back to me.
About 10 minutes later, he came and asked to use the phone
again and I gave him but he started moving further and
further away from where we were. I then asked Isaac, who
will be a witness to get my phone from him and that was
the last time I saw the phone.
“On Sunday he was caught and taken to Kabwata Police.
When I asked him where the phone was, he said he had
forgotten it somewhere. That same day, the uncle came and
assured me that they would buy me another phone,”
Chisha said.
Chisha suggested that she wanted to withdraw
the case as they were family friends but
magistrate Chabala ordered that she would
proceed to hear the witnesses.
Chiluba in his defence, denied stealing the phone
and insisted that he returned it to the
complainant. He recounted that on that day, he
was having drinks with Chisha at Mommas Pub
in Woodlands when he asked to use her phone to
call his uncle because his phone had gone off.
Lusaka Magistrate Nthandose Chabala delivering
judgement said she handed Chiluba Jr a custodial
sentence as a deterrence to him and other
would-be offenders.

In a previous report by NAIJ.com , the Rapid
Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos state police
command arrested a suspected phone thief, Femi
Solomon .
The suspect confessed that he has stolen over
1,200 from Lagos commuters since he joined
pickpocket gang three years ago, Daily Trust
reports.
Solomon was arrested on Thursday at Iyana
Oworo after stealing a Samsung phone from a
commuter.

2019: There’s plot to ‘knockout’ Buhari - Senator Marafa

Senator Kabir Marafa has alleged that there are plans
to technically 'knock out' President Buhari ahead of
2019 general elections
- President had on Monday, April 9, declared intention
to seek re-election in 2019
- Marafa also noted that there are some people within
the party's NWC who wanted to scuttle the recently
conducted congress in Zamfara state
Senator Kabiru Marafa representing Zamfara
central senatorial district at the upper legislative
chamber raised the alarm that plots are on to
technically knockout President Muhammadu
Buhari in the 2019 election.
Daily Trust reports that Marafa who is the
chairman of the Senate committee on petroleum
said in an interview that he was tear-gassed
during a parallel congress conducted by his camp
in Zamfara on Saturday, May 12.
adegokblog .com gathered that the senator said that the
state government mobilised heavily to prevent
an innocent citizen from carrying out his civic
responsibility
He said: "There was an incident in my local government.
The police I believe under the instruction of the state
government mobilised heavily to prevent an innocent citizen
from carrying out his civic responsibility, and that was me.
"Saturday, 12th of May was the date fixed by the APC for
local government congresses, and as a party man and a
politician, I drove to my local government headquarters
where the event was supposed to take place.
"On reaching there, I met massive security buildup
comprising mobile policemen and officials of the Nigeria
Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
"I was informed that the area commander was there, so I
tried to see him but I couldn't. There was an APC vehicle
stationed there, this time not APC political party but
Armored Personnel Carrier. Before I knew it, one of my
mobile policemen was manhandled. So I moved forward to
ask what the problem was and they threw teargas right in
front of me.
"In a nutshell, the mobile policeman was manhandled,
harassed and disarmed. My orderly was equally disarmed.
So I tried to ask what was the problem, they were just busy
throwing tear gas. But I thank God that they did not deter
me.
"The whole thing was just to stop me from organising or
conducting my own local government congress. But the
beauty of it is that the world has seen that the state
government lacks confidence of the people that is why there
was that massive police or security buildup. If you are
popular in politics, you don’t need any security agent to
help you organize your own affair.
He added that: "The state government has lost
popularity and touch with the people so it is afraid of
elections. What I simply asked was that let these congresses
be conducted following our guidelines. That is what I asked
for. What do the guidelines say?
"They show how the ward congresses should hold; how the
local government should go, and this is how that of the
state should go. So why the massive buildup of security? If
you had done the right thing, people will see it, people will
be the judges too. I think the whole essence was aimed at
either embarrassing me or intimidating me, but that is not
possible because they cannot stop me from defending my
right.
"Like in Zamfara now, we had parallel congresses - we now
have two sets of executives, one by the state government
and another by me. I have followed due process from
beginning up till where we are now. But the state
government didn’t because they have security apparatus at
their disposal.
"As far as I am concerned, there are some people within the
NWC that are desirous of scuttling the processes thereby
endangering the electoral success of the APC. They may rule
against me on the case I made to the appeal committee for
instance, but one thing I'm sure of is that the court will rule
in my favour.

Meanwhile,adegokblog .com had previously reported
that following the killings of Innocent citizens in
Zamfara state, a chieftain of the APC, Comrade
Timi Frank, on Wednesday, February 14, urged
that such an issue should not be swept under the
carpet.

We have rendered Governor Okorocha politically irrelevant - APC stakeholders in Imo declare

The APC stakeholders in Imo spoke through Theo
Elechi
- The stakeholders say they have overwhelming
evidences against Okorocha
- They claim that there is jubilation in Imo because
they have rescued the state
The stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress
(APC) in Imo have declared that they have made
Governor Rochas Okorocha politically irrelevant
in their determination to rescue the party from
imminent collapse in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Theo
Ekechi, who spoke to newsmen after a closed-
door meeting with the APC national leadership
on Thursday, May 17, in Abuja, said the
stakeholders had overwhelming evidences
against Okorocha.
Ekechi said he had made it impossible for the
governor to get attention from any quarter in the
state and in the South-East region.

“There have been wide jubilation in Imo because we have
rescued the party from Governor Okorocha, we have made
it impossible for him to get help from anywhere.
“He cannot run to any political figure in the state because
none is with him, he cannot approach any clergyman in the
state.
“In his desperation, he ran to Sokoto, Daura and even to the
vice president, but help has refused to come,” he said.
Ekechi further said Rochas’s inaction was
responsible for the problems facing the party in
the state and the South-East generally.
In a petition submitted to the party’s national
leadership, the stakeholders detailed what they
described as the governor’s sins and appealed
for state of emergency in the state.
Ekechi called on the party’s national chairman to
bring to the notice of President Muhammadu
Buhari the crisis in Imo before it completely gets
out of hand.

He alleged that the state was being mis- managed
under Okorocha, adding that the governor was
running the state like a personal estate.
He also alleged that the governor was harassing
and intimidating perceived opponents in the
state.
Adegokblog .com earlier reported that the metropolitan
archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Diocese, Imo
state, Reverend Anthony JV Obinna , condemned
Governor Rochas Okorocha’s endorsement of his
son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, to succeed him in 2019.
This Day reports that the cleric at the weekend
during his speech on the celebration of the
Easter at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri,
said Okorocha was planning to extend his tenure
to third term by trying to impose his son in-law
as governor of Imo state.
Adegokblog.com also reported that Reverend Geoffrey
Okorafor, the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of
Egbu, Imo, said that Governor Rochas Okorocha
had not only failed God, but has also
disappointed the people of the state.

60 percent of the people in West Africa are Nigerians - Dambazau

Abdulrahman Dambazau says the federal
government took the decision as part of efforts to
curtail clashes between farmers and herdsmen
- The effort includes the introduction of biometric
registration to monitor the movement of people,
goods and livestock into Nigeria
- Danbazau says 60 percent of the people in West
Africa are Nigerians
Abdulrahman Dambazau, Nigeria’s interior
minister, said on Thursday, May 17, in Abuja
that the federal government has introduced the
use of biometric registration to monitor the
movement of people, goods and livestock into the
country.
Danbazau spoke at a special town hall meeting to
address farmers/herdsmen crises reportedly
noting that Nigerians make up 60 percent of the
people in West Africa and thus has a high
migration level.

Daily Independent reports that Dambazau said
the new move was important as a result of the
ECOWAS free movement treaty which Nigeria is
a signatory.
Noting that a conference was recently organised
within the ECOWAS sub-region to review its
protocol on the free movement of goods, humans
and livestock, he was quoted as saying: “60 per
cent of the people in West Africa are Nigerians.
You need to know the number of Nigerians who
cross the borders to other countries to look for
livelihood.
“It is important for us to see how we can create a balance
between the implementation of the protocol and the
security of our borders.
“We have introduced the use of biometrics in other to
ensure that we take account of every person that comes
into Nigeria.”
The minister reportedly appealed to the media
and citizens to look at the crisis between farmers
and herdsmen as a national issue rather than
one to which sentiments should be attached.
Danbazau also noted that the Nigeria Police
Force was currently asking people to openly
declare their arms.

“We have given directive and this is why you see the police
going from place to place asking people to declare their
weapons.
“We have given this grace after which we will go out and
condone suspected areas, get the weapons out and even
prosecute those illegally handling them,” he said.
Adegokblog.com earlier reported that President
Muhammadu Buhari directed the military and
the police to put mechanism in place to ensure
that there is no reprisal attacks in Plateau state.
President Buhari, who was reacting to the killing
of over 20 persons by suspected herdsmen, said
the madness should not be allowed to continue.

Trump asked me twice the difference between HIV and HPV - Bill Gates

Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, said on two occasions
he was asked by the United States president, Donald
Trump, if HIV and HPV were the same
- Gates said the first time the president asked him the
question was in December 2016 and the second time
was in March 2017
Billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft founder,
Bill Gate, has revealed that the United States
president, Donald Trump, didn't know the
difference between human immune deficiency
virus (HIV) and human papillomavirus (HPV).
Gates said that President Trump had asked him
twice if HIV and HPV were the same thing,
adding that the first time he asked was at Trump
Tower in December 2016 and the second time
was in March 2017, USA Today reports.
adegokblog .com notes that the Microsoft founder said:
"Both times he wanted to know if there was a difference
between HIV and HPV. So, I was able to explain that those
are rarely confused with each other."

He also described a time he saw the president
speaking with his 22-year-old daughter, Jennifer
Gates.
Gates said: "And then, like 20 minutes later, he flew in in
a helicopter to the same place. So, clearly he had been
driven away, but he wanted to make a grand entrance in a
helicopter. When I first talked to him, it was actually kind
of scary how much he knew about my daughter's
appearance. Melinda didn't like that too well."
He also said Donald Trump had asked him if
vaccines were bad for consumption, that he was
exploring forming a commission to look into the
"ill effects of vaccines".
Gates added: "I said, 'No, that's a dead end. That would
be a bad thing. Don't do that."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, HIV is different from HPV. The virus
is the most common STD. It has infected 79
million Americans. In most cases, people with
HPV do not have health problems, but the virus
can cause cancer.

Meanwhile, adegokblog .com previously reported that the
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation would pay off
Nigeria’s $76 million debt to Japan, over a 20-
year period, beginning in 2018.
The money was borrowed from the Asian
country in 2014, to be used to tackle the polio
disease.
As a result of the loan, Nigeria recorded no new
case of the disease in 2017; a major improvement
from 2012 when the country had over half of all
polio cases worldwide.
Gates had also acknowledged the significant
strides made towards eradicating the disease
globally.

Saraki leads 10-man delegation to Buhari over alleged attempt by IGP to implicate him

Bukola Saraki is set to lead a 10-man delegation to
President Muhammadu Buhari over alleged attempt to
implicate him
- The Senate president said the Kwara state Governor
Abdulfatai Ahmed brought his attention to an alleged
plan by the IG of police to force some suspects to
implicate him in a criminal matter
- Members of the delegation are the leader of the
Senate Ahmed Lawan, the chief whip Olusola Adeyeye,
minority whip Godswill Akpabio
The president of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki is
set to lead a 10-man delegation to President
Muhammadu Buhari over alleged attempt to
implicate him in a criminal matter.
This followed an explanation on the matter by
Saraki at plenary on Wednesday.
Members of the delegation are the leader of the
Senate Ahmed Lawan, the chief whip Olusola
Adeyeye, minority whip Godswill Akpabio, Sen.
Oluremi Tinubu (APC-Lagos) and Sen. Raji Rasaki
(APC-Ekiti).
Others are Senator Aliyu Wammakko (APC-
Sokoto), Senator Sam Egwu (PDP-Ebonyi),
Senator Danjuma Goje (APC-Gombe) and Senator
Abdullahi Adamu (APC-Nasarawa).
While addressing his colleagues, Saraki said the
Kwara state governor Abdulfatai Ahmed brought
his attention to an alleged plan by the inspector
general of police, Ibrahim Idris, to force some
suspects to implicate him in a criminal matter.
He said the governor informed him that the
suspects who were arrested in Kwara for cultism
were allegedly ordered by Idris to Abuja to force
them into altering their statements.
“According to information available to the governor, the
inspector general of police directed the commissioner of
police in Kwara state to immediately transfer the men to
the force headquarters
” The plan as the governor was made to understand is that
under duress, the suspects would be made to alter the
statements already made in Ilorin.
“They will be made to implicate the Kwara state
government and myself in particular in their new statement.
” This plot is part of the strategy by the IGP to settle scores
over the declaration by this honourable chamber that he is
not qualified and competent to hold any public office.
“In my view, this plot is an act of desperation, blackmail,
intimidation, abuse of office and crude tactics aimed at
turning our country into a police state.
“The tactics is aimed at turning the country into a state
where top officials cannot be made to obey the law, follow
due process and subject themselves to constituted
authorities.
“I want to bring this dangerous development to the
attention of all of you, the entire country and the
international community so that you can be aware of the
level of impunity in our country and the danger it
constitutes to our democracy,” he said.
Contributing, the deputy leader of the Senate,
Bala Na’ Allah said the matter should be treated
with the seriousness it deserved.
He said for the matter to come from the chief
security officer of Kwara state, it should be taken
seriously.
He called for the setting up of a committee to
investigate the matter, adding that: “In view of
the fact that Saraki is involved he should step
down for Ekweremadu to preside on setting up of
the committee.”
Senator Gbenga Ashafa-(APC-Lagos) said the
committee should comprise of members of the
Senate and the House of Representatives in view
of the fact that Saraki is the chairman of the
national assembly.
The chief whip, Olusola Adeyeye, said the
committee should comprise of seven lawmakers
from each of the six geopolitical zones
He added that the House of Representatives
should be intimated on the development and
advised to do same if they so wished.
Senator Sam Anyanwu(PDP-Imo) lamented the
fact that lawmakers were being intimidated from
carrying out their responsibilities.
He said : “We should not trivialise this matter. If it is
happening to Saraki then we are all in trouble.
” Many of us have been earmarked. It is a calculated
attempt to ridicule the person and integrity of the Senate
President and the national assembly as an institution.”
Senator Kabiru Marafa(APC-Zamfara) suggested
that rather than setting up a committee to
investigate the matter, the committee should visit
President Buhari to inform him of the
development.
“There is already a problem between us and the IGP, so I
suggest that we raise a committee as suggested by others
but instead of investigating they should sit down with
President Buhari to discuss the matter.
“This is not a joke as it can turn democracy upsidedown.
“If we investigate, where are we to take our resolutions to.
They might end up inviting the IG and what if he still
doesn’t appear again,” he said.
Marafa said visiting the president on the matter
and other related matters had become necessary
as it was obvious that he was not in the picture
of some of the problems lawmakers were facing.
Senator Emmanuel Bwacha(PDP-Taraba) decried
increased spate of intimidation of lawmakers.
He also suggested that the matter should be
taken to the president, stressing that,” he ought
to know that our democracy is collapsing. “
Adegokblog .com had reported that the Senate president,
Bukola Saraki, alleged that there is an ongoing
plot by the Inspector General of Police (IGP),
Ibrahim Idris, to implicate him in a crime.
Saraki, who made the allegation on Wednesday,
May 16, during plenary.
