A lot of people have argued that the security man was being an 'oversabi' , while others argue that he was merely doing his appointed job. Footballer Lionel Messi came to the rescue of a young fan who was turned away after he snuck past security to try to meet him.
As the Barcelona striker was being ushered into an hotel, the boy tried to meet him but was dragged away before getting the chance. However, Messi saw the tearful boy being taken away and demanded that they bring him back. He then hugged and posed for photos with him. Watch the video below.

Nigerian Government Using Nnamdi Kanu To Destroy Biafra – MASSOB Founder, Uwazuruike

The founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has said the Federal Government is using the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to destroy Biafra.
In an interview in the current edition of The Interview, Uwazuruike accused Kanu of working hand-in-glove with the security services to destabilize the struggle for Biafra, starting with the forthcoming November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.
“Nnamdi is fighting against Biafra,” Uwazuruike said. “The security agencies have seen Nnamdi as somebody with a high value that they can use. They heard him shouting on radio and they approached him and he accepted to work with them.”
Ralph Uwazuruike and Nnamdi Kanu He continued, “No election in Anambra State is aimed at favoring the All Progressives Congress (APC) to edge out Governor Obiano through destabilization; that’s the only thing and it’s being arranged by the security agencies, using Kanu.”
The MD/Editor-In-Chief of The Interview, Azu Ishiekwene, described the current edition as “a rare insight into the complex and troubling identity politics confronting the country.”
The MASSOB founder said it was regrettable that his efforts to achieve Biafra by peaceful means were being sabotaged by Kanu who has been hijacked by security agencies and some pay masters he refused to name.
In the interview, Uwazuruike said, “I know the mansions that Nnamdi Kanu and people like him have abroad…let Kanu keep disgracing himself like he’s doing now, because I know he’s being funded and I know those funding him.”
He described Kanu’s arrest and bail conditions as a setup, wondering why a man who was released on health grounds has not visited any hospital since his release from detention.
He criticised the Muhammadu Buhari administration for lacking the capacity to govern, saying, “APC won an election but didn’t have a plan to govern.”
Uwazuruike said former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, rigged President Goodluck Jonathan out of office, adding that, “If Jonathan had remained the president of Nigeria till today, the US dollar would not have exchanged for more than N50. Nigeria will still beg Jonathan to come back.”
Also in this edition, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, reflects on his recent legal battles with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission; while development activist, Furera Isma Jamure, provides some insights on her efforts to raise role models in the North.

EFCC: Ibori Fighting Hard To Stall Confiscation Of His Assets | TheCable

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says James Ibori, former governor of Delta state, is “fighting tooth and nail” to stall the confiscation of his assets in the United Kingdom.
In 2012, a UK court convicted Ibori of money laundering, with most of his property in the country risking confiscation.  He, however, appealed the conviction.
In the latest edition of its monthly media publication, EFCC ALERT, the anti-graft agency said Ibori is on a “campaign of calumny” targeted at UK police officers in retaliation of his conviction.
The report, written by Segun Adeoye, an assistant editor of the publication, also accused him of employing media propaganda to paint himself as “a victim of persecution”.
“One of such, published on financialwatchngr.com, November 28, 2016, claimed that the UK had opened ‘fresh investigation of corrupt policemen involved’ in Ibori’s trial. The report credited to a statement by Tony Eluemunor, Ibori’s media aide, had posited that ‘the latest investigation’ was by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC),” Adeoye wrote.
“Investigations, however, indicate that there was in fact, no such ‘fresh investigation’ and the IPCC was not investigating anything new. Interaction with one of the officers involved in the investigation and prosecution of Ibori indicates that no such notices, as claimed in the Eluemunor statement, was served on the officers.
James Ibori “The report overreached its propaganda agenda, referring to the officers as being ‘on active duty while the investigation continued’, when in fact, the reverse was the case as they had long retired from the Police. Matthew Hurding-Jones, who was listed among the officers erroneously reported as being investigated, had changed his name three years before the publication of the report.”
Adeoye said allegations of bribery and corruption on part of police officers who investigated Ibori, were dismissed in July 2014 by an appeal court.
“The court ruled that the allegation that Risc Management Limited (RML), a company of private investigators gave bribes to officers in the course of investigation, in exchange of ‘privileged information’, was ‘a very grave one’, but “such allegation has in fact already in substance being investigated and rejected,” Adeoye wrote.
“Moreover, an investigation proved the allegation of payment of £20,000 as a bribe to police officers to be false. It was established that £11,500 supposedly invoiced by RML was never paid. The remainder was paid to an operative of RML for travel expenses. None ever went into the pocket of any of the officers that investigated Ibori.”
The report accused the Ibori media team of “fighting dirty” to the end, citing when in May, the team claimed “legal victory” for Ibori, and portraying him as a “victim of persecution”.
Adeoye said a report by the Ibori media team said Ibori secured ‘victory’ against the UK government, and that ‘Ibori’s human rights had been violated’ by Amber Rudd, the UK Home Secretary.
“No doubt, the ‘other side of the news,” he wrote.
“In actual fact, Rudd had tried to keep Ibori in the UK so that his confiscation hearing could be dealt with. A trial judge had rejected Ibori’s claim for £4,000 in damages, and instead awarded “nominal damages” of £1 for his being kept in custody for an extra 42 hours.
“The decision to keep Ibori in immigration detention, the judge opined, was probably because of millions of pounds authorities were yet to recover from him, as against a violation of Ibori’s rights as alluded to by the report.
“Apparently, Ibori, seems a wounded lion fighting tooth and nail to stall confiscation of his assets in the UK, even as he awaits the hearing of the appeal, which is understood comes up in November.”

Nigeria Secret Police Detains Own Retired Assistant Director For 48 Days Without Trial For Alleged Closeness To EFCC Chair Magu

A retired senior official of the State Security Service has been held without trial by the agency for 48 days and counting over his alleged ties to Ibrahim Magu, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
Abba Kaka Mohammed was arrested by SSS agents on July 17 but had neither been released not charged to court ever since, his lawyers said.
The Nigerian law allows a maximum of 48 hours for a suspect to be charged to court or freed on administrative bail. But Mr. Mohammed has now spent weeks languishing in detention without arraignment, amidst concerns by his family that he might have lost one of his eyes after being brutalised by SSS operatives in custody.
His lawyers were granted access to him for the first time on Tuesday. They had since approached the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court for fundamental rights enforcement proceeding against the SSS and Attorney-General Abubakar Malami.
His family members also told PREMIUM TIMES Mr. Mohammed had taken critically ill and should be released or charged to court in order to get adequate medical attention.
Mr. Mohammed retired last year as an Assistant Director, Office of the Director General, ADODG, performing the role of a Chief of Staff to the Director-General of the SSS, Lawal Daura. But his relationship with Mr. Daura subsequently deteriorated.
“The SSS DG accused him of holding grievances against the SSS, a claim that is clearly not true,” a relative of the deceased told PREMIUM TIMES, adding that Mr. Daura and his client had been long time acquaintances.
Lawal Musa Daura, the Director General of the Department of State Security Services The relative, who asked not to be named for fear of being targeted by the SSS, said when Mr. Mohammed was arrested on July 17, he was taken to his residence along the Airport Road in Abuja, and another one near Galadimawa neighbourhood, also in Abuja.
“But they found nothing after all the searches they conducted,” the relative said. “Nothing implicating was found.”
Mr. Mohammed was then taken to the SSS custody, where he was confined to a cell without adequate care, the relative said confirming that Mr. Mohammed’s lawyer and his daughter were only allowed to see him last Tuesday.
“They also accused him of being a front for Magu, saying his long-time relationship with the EFCC boss was suspicious,” the relative said.
The relative said Mr. Daura had always known that Mr. Mohammed was a friend of Mr. Magu, having both hailed from Borno and being friends for over a decade.
“The SSS officers just wanted him to implicate Magu with anything, even when they’ve never had any transactions together,” said the relative.
[Acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu]
On August 25, lawyers from Femi Falana chambers on behalf of Mr. Mohammed approached the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court for the following reliefs:
A declaration that the detention of the applicant at Abuja by the first respondent in their detention facility since July 17, 2017 till date without being charged to court for a known offence is illegal and unconstitutional as it violates the applicant’s fundamental rights to personal liberty, dignity of person and fair hearing as enshrined in section 34, 35 and 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and Articles 5, 6 and 7 of the African Charter on Human Rights and Peoples’ Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act (CAP A10) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
A declaration that the detention of the applicant at Abuja by the first respondent without access to his medical doctors, drugs, family and lawyers, since July 17, 2017 till date is illegal and unconstitutional as it violates the applicant’s fundamental rights to health, freedom of association as enshrined in Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and Article 11 of the African Charter on Human Rights and Peoples’ Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act (CAP A10) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
An order of this honourable court directing the immediate and unconstitutional release of the applicant from custody of the first respondent forthwith.
An offer of this honourable court compelling the respondents jointly and separately to pay to the applicant the sum of N2,000,000,00 (Two billion naira) as general and aggravated damages for the illegal violation of his fundamental rights to life, dignity of his person, fair hearing, health, freedom of movement and freedom of association.
An order of this honourable court compelling the respondents joint or separately to publish in five national dailies a public apology to the applicant for two weeks for the violation of the applicant’s fundamental rights to life, dignity of his person, fair hearing, health, freedom of movement and freedom of association.
An order of perpetual injunction restraining the respondents from further violating the applicant’s fundamental rights in any manner whatsoever and howsoever without lawful justification.
Mr. Mohammed’s daughter also swore an affidavit detailing how her father was arrested and the high chances that he’d gone blind in one eye in custody of the SSS.
The SSS could not be reached for comments due to its refusal to name a spokesperson.
A spokesperson for the AGF, Saliu Isa, did not respond to requests for comments.
The SSS is believed to be holding scores of Nigerians over an extended period of time without trial. The agency had declined to free a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, despite several court rulings for his bail.
Mr. Mohammed’s ordeal adds to the fallout of the worsening disaffection between Messrs. Daura and Magu.
The duo had been locked in political and administrative rivalry since Mr. Buhari tapped them to head their respective agencies two years ago.
The SSS twice thwarted Mr. Magu’s confirmation by the Senate, accusing him of being reckless and corrupt.
Mr. Magu had also openly criticised the SSS, describing the secret police as an outfit without credibility when he appeared before the Senate for his last confirmation hearing.

corruption Lagos police commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, orders immediate removal of state's anti-kidnapping squad leader over N70k bribe allegation

The Lagos state commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, has ordered an investigation into the allegation of bribery and corruption leveled against the Officer in Charge (OC), Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Adejobi and other officers under him. The Network on Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN), a network of 49 civil society organizations, had petitioned the command over the unlawful detention of one Blessing and the demand for bribe of N70,000 to secure her release.

According to the petition, Blessing, a single mother of two, was accused by her employer, Abiola Ojo Osagie, of stealing $50,000 on August 29th. Mrs Osagie called the police who arrested Blessing. The petition in part reads
“That Mrs. Abiola Osagie claimed that she left the $50,000 in a bag in her office and travelled for three weeks. That when Mrs. Abiola Osagie returned, she didn’t check the bag for some days and when she eventually checked, she discovered that the money was gone and she immediately accused Blessing because she had a key to the office and was in charge of delegating people to sweep that office. That Mrs. Abiola Osagie reported the matter at Ikoyi Police Station and Blessing was arrested on August 29. That after investigation, which included a search on Blessing’s home and a check on her bank account, the DPO advised that Blessing should be allowed to go. That not satisfied with the DPO’s investigation and advice, Osagie allegedly asked the DPO to ‘make Blessing confess’ to the crime, but the DPO made it clear to her that torture is not part of investigation in his station. That Osagie then took the matter to the Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Unit of the Lagos State Police Command under the charge of Mr. Adejobi with one Igbin as IPO. That the OC Anti-Kidnapping Section ordered that Blessing be locked up among suspected cultists and kidnappers. That Blessing spent most of her hours in the cell crying, with her children left in the care of neighbours. That the OC Anti-Kidnapping Unit stated that Blessing was culpable and refused entreaties to grant her bail or charge her to court. That the OC persistently ignored requests and pleas from Blessing’s relatives as well as interventions by journalists and other concerned individuals, to grant Blessing bail or charge her to court. That not even a request by one of Blessing’s father’s friends and colleagues, a retired SSS operative could persuade the OC, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, to grant her bail or charge her to court.”
According to the petition, on September 1st, the OC told Blessing’s family that she would be granted bail if they can provide two people with valid passports, N2 million in bank account, and property that has Change of Ownership (C of O). The policemen also allegedly asked N70,000 as part of the conditions for bail. Blessing’s sister, Folake, was however able to raise only N50,000 and when she presented it to the police officers, they allegedly refused to collect it, insisting that the money must be complete.
The petition also alleged that after much pleading, the OC eventually ‘granted Blessing bail’, but held unto her mobile phone which will be released on September 5, if she comes with the balance of N20, 000.
Reacting to the allegation, the commissioner in a statement released by the state police public relations officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole today, called on all parties to come to the command's headquarters in Ikeja for an interview and further investigation. In the meantime, the accused OC has been removed from office. Read the statement from Famous-Cole below
"The attention of the Lagos state police command has been drawn to the media publication making the rounds on social media about an ongoing police investigation alleging the O/C Anti-Kidnapping and cultism unit of corrupt practice.
The New commissioner of police has requested that all parties involved are to come for an interview at the police command tomorrow 5th September 2017 at 09:00am, including the alleged victim in the publication.
The New CP has also directed that the DC Panti commence a discreet and indept investigation into the allegation of the police action.
To ensure an impartial investigation the CP has ordered the immediate removal of the O/C Anti-Kidnapping CSP Adejobi back to the command.
The Ag/CP Edgal Imohimi is worried about this allegation and wants justice to be done.
The new CP is reassuring Lagosians that every officer found indicted by their actions or inaction in regards this matter will face the full weight of the police regulations.
The era of slap on the wrist of police men whose behaviour tarnish the force is over. The new CP has a zero tolerance of every form and any form of indiscipline and corruption
