ABUJA: FCTA to Host Nationwide MSME Business Clinic
The Managing Director, Abuja Enterprising Agency (AEA) Alhaji Arabi Tukur, says the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will host the nationwide Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) business clinic in Abuja.
Tukur said at news briefing on Wednesday in Abuja that the Office of the Vice President in collaboration with FCTA through Entrepreneurial Development, Poverty Reduction and Wealth Creation the Abuja Enterprise Agency is organising the clinic.
“The Nationwide MSME Business Clinic is one of the initiatives of the Federal Government to diversify the economy through strengthening of MSMEs in the country.
“The initiative will enlighten MSMEs on programmes of the Federal Government that will accelerate business growth and provide on the spot support services to MSMEs.
“In addition it will provide the platform to promote and showcase Made-in-Nigeria products and services,’’ he said.
The managing director said the event will facilitate interaction between Business Regulators (BR), Business Development Services (BDS) providers and Business Owners (BO).
He noted that through the interaction BO will understand better the roles of BR and the regulatory challenges that exist will be addressed on the spot by the Regulators.
“The Business Clinic is expected to host 5000 MSMEs within and outside the FCT.
“The activities of the 2-day programme will include Exhibition, Business Matching and Market Linkage, One on One Interaction with Regulatory Bodies, interactive sessions such as business roundtable and policy advocacy forum.
Tukur said the key strategic objectives include creating a platform where Business Regulatory Bodies (BRB), Business Development Service Providers BDSP) and Businesses can interact and provide solutions to challenges inhibiting the setup and growth of MSMEs in the FCT.
“The forum will also sensitise BO on policies, programmes and initiatives designed by the Federal Government for supporting and encouraging MSMEs.
“Promote and showcase Made-in-Nigeria goods and services,’’ he added.
He noted that during the course of the event BO will interact with the BRB that include Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), and Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Others, he said, are Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, (NAFDAC).
Also, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Bank of Industry (BoI), Bank of Agriculture (BoA), Raw Materials Research and Development council (RMRDC) amongst others.
Tukur maintained that the business clinic is aimed at promoting the MSMEs business profile for networking with similar business organisation in this part of the world.
“It is aimed to provide a very useful platform for associations to meet and explore co-operative exchanges and activities with counterparts in other states.
“The business clinic would create an excellent opportunities for participants to meet with prospective local and foreign buyers to sell their products internationally.
“It will also avail them the opportunity to have a no hold bared discussion with relevant government Agencies regulating Exportation in Nigeria,’’ he said.
The managing director said that participants can join associations of same industry or region, so as to participate in other exhibitions to promote their products/services in a unified group e.g. membership of associations like NASME, NASSI, ABCOF.
Tukur said the event will showcase the natural/mineral resources that are available within the FCT and its environs.
He added that the business clinics/exhibition are avenues where latest inventions both technological and service oriented are usually showcased/demonstrated to the business world.
He said the event, which is slated from July 19 to July 20 2017, is free for all interested individual and organisations to attend, saying it will commence from 9am to 4pm daily will hold at Eagle Square Abuja.(NAN)

Boko Haram: VSF Spends N60m on Treatment of Insurgency Victims

Nigerian foundation, the Victims Support Fund (VSF) on Sunday said that
it had so far provided N60 million for the medical treatment of victims
of Boko Haram insurgency in Borno.
VSF Executive Director, Prof. Sunday Ochoche, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen while on a visit to Maiduguri.
Ochoche said that N30 million each had been given to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and Borno Specialists’ Hospital, Maiduguri.
“So far, we have given the UMTH N30 million but with the recent happenings, especially the multiple bomb blasts, we are going to consider how much additional fund to be added.
“We gave the Specialists Hospital N20 million and we just added an additional N10 million today,’’ he said.
He said that the VSF had expanded the scope of treatment provided by the hospitals to include provision of free healthcare services to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
“I think it is worthy of note to state that the fund is no longer restricted to the treatment of just bomb blasts and attacks victims.
“It is now for the general medical treatment of all IDPs; we have already amended our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the hospitals to that effect,’’ Ochoche said.
He said that his visit was aimed at getting first-hand information on the condition of victims of last Wednesday’s multiple bomb blasts in Maiduguri.
“We came to express our support and condolences to the people and Government of Borno over the blasts.
“We also came to see what is on ground and how we can help,’’ Ochoche said.
According to him, the VSF has been in partnership with Borno Government in providing care for the victims of Boko Haram insurgency since 2015.
“You will recall that since 2015, the VSF has been a partner with the state government on health support for victims of insurgency.
“We are here to see precisely how the funds we have given can be utilised effectively, especially following the recent bomb blasts,’’ he said.
The VSF chief expressed satisfaction with the manner resources provided for the medical care of victims was being utilized.
“We are really encouraged by the work been done by the hospitals; we are happy to see that our funds are making the difference.
“We saw that the patients are getting every support and the best possible treatment that they require, free of charge, because of the funds supplied by the VSF to the hospitals,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigeria Foundation for the Support of Victims of Terrorism (Victims Support Fund) was set up to mobilise sustainable funding and building partnerships for the support and transformation of victims of terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.
It set up committees to provide a framework, through which all persons and institutions who want to assist, can help mitigate the pains Nigerians are going through.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has dismissed the state
executive council, including commissioners and special advisers as well
as senior special assistants.
The Permanent
Secretary, Government House, Mr. Onyii Wamah, announced the dissolution
in a statement posted on the government’s website on Friday night.
According
to the permanent secretary, the governor retained his Chief of Staff,
Mr. Sunny Nwakodo, Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Obinna Oriaku and
Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the state, Chief Umeh
Kalu (SAN).
No reason was given for the
dissolution but there are speculations that it was after the
commissioners and other officials presented their scorecards at a forum
attended by the governor between May 28 and May 29.
The
statement also announced the appointment of three special advisers to
the governor, including the former Commissioner of Works, Mr. Eziuche
Ubani, who was appointed as the Special Adviser on Works and Project
Monitoring.
Others were Mr. Emma Nwabuko and
Mr. Solomon Ogunji, who were appointed as Special Adviser/Personal
Secretary to the Governor and Special Adviser on Urban Renewal,
respectively.
Last month, Governor Rochas
Okorocha of Imo State also dismissed his entire cabinet members in what
was said to be a strategic bid to restrengthen his administration.
