Recall that Governor Wike had earlier declared that most of the kidnapping and armed robbery taking place in the state are perpetrated by operatives of SARS. The APC leaders are reportedly in the state  to finalise  plans for the party's street protest in support of the embattled Akin Fakorede.
Read the report by Geru, who shared the photos:
The politicization of the Rivers State Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS)  got to an all-time low on Saturday as indicted SARS Commander, Akin Fakorede and his operatives participated in airport ceremony and fanfare for the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi and the defeated Rivers State APC Governorship Candidate, Mr. Dakuku Peterside.
They joined in the singing and dancing by APC members to the chargrin  of passengers  and other by-standers at the Port Harcourt International Airport.  Most people wondered why the Nigerian Police  has degenerated to the level of involvement in active partisan politics.
The Embattled Rivers Special Anti-Robbery Squad Commander  (SARS), Mr Akin Fakorede   joined his colleagues of the All Progressives Congress  (APC) at the Port Harcourt International Airport to welcome the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the defeated Rivers APC Governorship Candidate, Mr Dakuku Peterside.
Akin Fakorede was at the foot of the aircraft receiving the politicians and was caught on camera holding an umbrella for the defeated Rivers APC Governorship Candidate, Dakuku Peterside to shield him from the rain.
The APC leaders are in the state  to finalise  plans for the party's street protest  in support of  the embattled Akin Fakorede.
The SARS Commander stands indicted for the alleged use of his operatives to promote kidnapping and armed robbery on two Federal Highways in Rivers State.
The Official Police Signal with the title: "Police Wireless Message " and Reference Number DT0: 121030/09/2017 ---INGENPOL-X-FHQ ABUJA TO-INGENPOL SEC ABUJA, noted that the squad received a distress call on the kidnap of Mr Ifeanyi  and immediately  swung into action. According to the signal, they met the three SARS operatives robbing and a gun duel ensued. The operatives had taken Mr Ifeanyi to a Fidelity Bank ATM where they compelled him to withdraw N500,000 as ransom. One of the SARS  Operatives was killed, while Inspector Justice Nyeche who led the IGP team was injured
Akin Fakorede was caught on video invading the Rivers East Senatorial District Collation Centre on December 12, 2016 in an attempt  to snatch the results of the district.
Only recently, Rivers SARS murdered a taxi driver in cold blood for inexplicable reasons.
It will be recalled that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike had  at a press conference alerted Nigerians on the negative activities of the SARS Commander, which has led to disruption in the state's security architecture.
Governor Wike said: "Most of the kidnapping and armed robbery taking place in this state are done by men of SARS.  They use exhibit  vehicles to operate. As the Chief Security Officer of the state, you complain, but they choose to play politics with crime.
"They fight crime in some state, but they refuse to fight crime in Rivers State.  We are done with the elections, but they are using SARS to  create insecurity in the state.
"As I speak with you, they will deny. But the SARS  Operative who was killed was amongst those who raided the Rivers East Senatorial District Collation Centre. This man can be identified  in the video as one of those who invaded the collation centre with Fakorede."
The governor  stated that the deliberate acts of violence  being perpetrated  by the Police have been planned as part of the rigging process for 2019

Tanker Explodes In Tafa, Kills 3

Three persons died yesterday while 15 others sustained injuries when a tanker loaded with petroleum lost control at Tafa, along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway and crashed.
Tafa, which is about a 40-minute drive from Abuja city centre, is located in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
It was gathered that 17 houses and several fuel tankers parked along the highway in Tafa village were burnt in the incident.
Witnesses said the ill-fated tanker bearing, Shema Petroleum Ltd, was approaching Abuja from Kaduna, when it tried to avoid colliding with an oncoming car and crashed.
They said by the time the driver of the vehicle was able to regain control of the tanker and park it by the side of the road, it had been damaged and was seriously leaking fuel.
Youths in the area, it was learnt, came in droves and started scooping fuel from the tanker.
Most of the people who sustained injuries were said to be scooping petroleum from the tanker when a fire started.
About 12 shops attached to a nearby brothel and a number of makeshift containers were also destroyed, residents said. The fire raged for about two hours before it was put out by men of the fire service, our reporter gathered.
Residents gave the names of two of the people who died in the incident simply as Hadiza Mai Tuwo and Bala Tela. The third person was yet to be identified at the time this report was filed.
Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that the injured persons were taken to the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hospital in Sabo Wuse and the Suleja General Hospital, while those in critical condition were taken to the Abuja University Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Tafa, CSP Faruk Umar, refused to comment on the incident when our reporter visited around 5pm, insisting that only the spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command was authorized to brief the press on the incident.
The DPO said the state police commissioner had visited the scene shortly after the incident, charging him to submit a report as quickly as possible.
The Tafa axis of the Kaduna-Abuja expressway way has been a major source of concern to commuters who complain over the manner drivers park fuel-laden tankers by the roadside.
Promises by successive governments in Kaduna State to build a trailer park for tankers and other articulated vehicles at the area, drivers use for stopovers, were not fulfilled.
The present administration in the state, however, recently resumed construction work at the park.
Some of the drivers who spoke to our reporter lamented the situation, urging government to conclude work at the park so that they could stop parking their vehicles by the roadside.
Earlier yesterday, the spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA), Yushau Shuaib, said a mosque was also destroyed in the incident but that there was no loss of life.
He said rescue workers were quickly mobilised to the scene to evacuate residents from the raging inferno.
“The accident was caused by the tanker driver’s attempt to escape a head on collision with the Golf car. He also tried to avoid the numerous tankers parked by the roadside.
“He, therefore, lost control and skidded off the road and fell down, spilling petrol which led to a fire outbreak,” he told the online newspaper Premium Times.
Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that one of the lanes of the expressway was closed to traffic following the incident.
Kaduna State police spokesperson, ASP Mukhtar Hussain Aliyu, who confirmed the incident, said it was while the youths in the area gathered to scoop fuel from the tank that the explosion occurred.
He added that some of the youths had deposited their containers with a food vendor by the roadside.
“The fuel spilled to the food vendor and that ignited the fire,” he said.
He said the police with other agencies of government were able to put out the fire, adding that the situation had been brought under control.

NDLEA Arrests 13 Drug Traffickers, Including NAHCO, SAHCOL Staff

 According to the Sahara Reporters

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 13 suspected drug traffickers at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in August and September, including some staff of the two ground handling companies at the airport.
A source close to the anti-narcotics agency told SaharaReporters on Sunday that staff of Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) and the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) conspired with drug dealers to traffic banned substances through the airport.
The source said that eight suspects were arrested in August while five were arrested in September. The NDLEA had beamed its searchlights on the activities of the two ground handling agencies following investigations exposing the involvement of their staff in drug trafficking.
According to the source, the deployment of more screening machines to the Lagos airport has made it easier for authorities to detect drugs.
The source explained that some of the drug cabals now use the airside staff of NAHCO and SAHCOL to peddle drugs out of the country, stressing that most of them could no longer use the terminal due to the installation of the screening machines.
The source added, “However, the attempt to traffic drugs through the airside also failed because we have several surveillances at that area of the airport, which the majority of these staff are not aware of. In the past two months, some staff of NAHCO were arrested in two consecutive operations and some staff of SAHCOL were also arrested, interrogated and detained from one operation carried out during the period.
“Those interrogated and arrested have continually offered reliable and useful information to our investigators and other aviation security agencies at the airport.”
Another source at the airport told our correspondent that apart from the staff of the two ground handling companies, other workers who have access to the airside were similarly involved in drug trafficking.
The source said some staff might have become involved in drug trafficking due to the low pay they receive, with many workers earning N15,000 monthly.
“These are the workers the drug barons approach to help them transport illicit drugs to a waiting aircraft as check-in luggage. It happens almost on a daily basis at the airport,” the source added.
It would be recalled that SaharaReporters had exclusively reported in August that operatives of the NDLEA had arrested at least six warehouse and tarmac staff of NAHCO in connection with drug trafficking at the Lagos airport.
The online medium had gathered that the arrested staff had attempted to export substances believed to be cocaine out of the country.
Sahara Reporters had learnt that the suspects had attempted to smuggle 26 kilograms of cocaine aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia.
An investigation had revealed that the suspects agreed to help courier the banned substance out of the country after an exporter had allegedly paid them in foreign currency.

Nigeria Vs. Zambia: Five Feared Dead In Uyo Stadium

Five people were feared dead while scores sustained serious injuries on Saturday following a stampede at the entrance of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The incident occurred while football enthusiasts tried to enter the stadium.
The fans, who were at the stadium to watch a match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Chipolopo of Zambia, were allegedly beaten by soldiers at the gates of the stadium with heavy sticks.
The stampede occurred as the crowd tried to avoid the soldiers’ sticks.
The bloodstains were around the gate of the stadium.
Policemen and personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps were seen standing beside some unconscious fans.
Our correspondent, who lost N10,000 in the stampede, was also assaulted by one of the soldiers with a big stick.
Some of the fans who spoke with our correspondent and vowed never to go to the stadium again, said they escaped death by the whiskers.
A female fan, Aniema Ekong, told SUNDAY PUNCH, “I thank God that I’m alive. This is not the first time this kind of incident had occurred. In fact, in every major tournament, there is always a tale of woes to tell about security agents injuring or killing people.
Another fan who identified himself as Chukwudi, said his girlfriend was severely injured by the security personnel manning the gate.
He said, “I don’t know why there is always trouble in this stadium.”
Ambulances were seen conveying injured persons to the hospital.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Elkana Bala, initially told our correspondent that he would find out what actually caused the stampede.
He later sent a text message to refute the claim that people died at the stadium.
“It is confirmed that nobody died. But some persons were injured while struggling to gain access into the stadium. The injured persons were taken to hospital for medical attention,” Bala said.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Charles Udoh, also said he would call his counterpart in the ministry of Health to find out what happened.

55 People Stole $6.2 Billion - Lai Mohammed

Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed says 55 people may have stolen   about $6.2 billion public funds from the country.
He gave no names of the culprits, listing only projects which government could have executed with a third of the funds, if recovered.
Mohammed spoke on an Al-Jazeera as part of a feature on the vast properties acquired in the UK with stolen funds by Nigerians.
According to the minister, $2.06billion of the alleged stolen funds would have built 600 kilometres of roads, 37 hospitals, 20,000 housing units and trained 4000 kids from primary to university level.
The corruption problem was also the subject of discussion on the Facebook wall of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie yesterday.
Onochie aimed darts at former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan and ex-Petroleum Affairs Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke for what she called their weird demands.
Her words: “It’s the season of weird demands. Recently, Nigerians were assaulted by the demand by the wife of the former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience Jonathan, asking President Muhammadu Buhari to “Tell EFCC to leave her alone.”
“Fat chance! EFCC is an institution, not an adulterous man running after someone else’s wife. “So, woman to woman, I asked her to look inwards. Patience should wear the sort of aura that dispels, rather than attracts law enforcement agencies.
“She can start by being honest and coming clean, regarding everything – cash, properties, etc., that were ill-acquired. Then hand them back to the rightful owners. Yes, back to Nigerians via the EFCC.
“You see, EFCC, ICPC, DSS, CCT, all follow the smell of crimes. If she does not have suspicions of criminal activities oozing and buzzing from and around her, there’s no way she’ll be dragging President Buhari to commit impunity by ordering EFCC to leave you alone.
“But there again, she’s been busy swatting the bees, she had no time to see that her husband’s reign of impunity, ended many moons ago.
“But that’s not the end of the story. And then, there’s Diezani Alison- Madueke.
“She too, wants something. She wants to return home. Remember she’s in the UK for medical purposes. Remember the photoshopped images her image launderer plastered all over the tabloid and the Social Media?
“Diezani is over 18 years old. That makes her an adult. She dusted her passport and flew out of this country, Nigeria.
“She had concluded plans to run off to a Caribbean Island to live off the blood money she stole, not hauled from the poorest and the most vulnerable citizens of this nation.
“She had no idea that she had become attractive to the British authorities, and had been in their view since 2013.
” You see, these women, who own choice properties and obese bank accounts they do not need, across the world including Nigeria, had the best of opportunities to improve the lives of Nigerians, especially those who suffer health hazards from environmental degradation in the bowels of the Niger Delta where these two come from.
“If they cared not about their immediate environment, why would they bat an eyelid that environmental issues in the Lake Chad Basin were fuelling Boko Haram.
“The adage that what a man can do a woman can do better, has never been proven more by anyone than Diezani Madueke.
“The forfeitures the Nigerian people have been awarded against Diezani, the pending and on-going corruption investigations and cases, are a testimony that this woman, who was elevated to the status of a goddess by ex-President Jonathan, has cases to answer, from UK to USA, Italy to the Caribbean.
“Why Mrs Madueke suddenly developed an urge to return home, is not clear. But many Nigerians think it’s not unconnected to the perceived cash and carry criminal justice system in Nigeria.
“But she’s probably not aware that the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Onnoghen, has vowed to clean up the judiciary.
“But there might be those judges who would be tempted by the mouth watering inducement that flows from the bottomless pit of Diezani Madueke’s haulage.
“May I remind Mrs. Madueke that a certain (Rtd) Admiral Alison-Madueke, warned President Muhammadu Buhari to leave his wife alone. May I also remind Diezani that Nigerians assume that she is that wife that the retired naval officer warned the President about.
“Now that she has been left alone, if she needs to return to Nigeria, she will also need her husband to threaten President Buhari to come after her, Hahahahaha…
“Dear Sis, in the meantime, you should make yourself comfortable in the UK. Attend to your criminal trials going on there. When found guilty, happily serve your jail term because it’s just the beginning.
“Then when you are done, repeat the same process in America and then in Italy. If you are still alive by then, you should then be retired to Nigeria, to begin the same process that will ultimately lead you to your retirement home. You have a choice between Kirikiri and Kuje, among other prisons. Till then, it’s Goodbye Diezani. You aren’t coming home soon!”

Monkeypox Spreads To Akwa Ibom State

One case of Monkeypox has been recorded in Akwa Ibom State, an official has confirmed.
At least 13 people suspected to be affected by the viral disease are on admittance in hospitals in neighboring Bayelsa and Rivers states.
The Commissioner for Information in the Akwa Ibom, Charles Udoh, in a statement issued in Uyo, confirmed the single case. He also said that the state government was investigating two more cases suspected to be monkeypox.
“Monkeypox currently has no treatment and no vaccine,” Mr. Udoh said. “It looks like small pox but the rashes are larger while the disease is milder.”
“The era of avoiding excessive handshake, regular hand-washing and abstinence from bush meat is here again.
“We will provide more information subsequently,” the commissioner said.
The recent incident of the virus was first reported in Bayelsa last week with a medical doctor and 10 others quarantined.
PREMIUM TIMES reported how the number of suspected cases in Bayelsa increased to 13. Three suspected cases were later reported in Rivers State.
Samples from suspected victims in Bayelsa and Rivers have been sent to the World Health Organisation, WHO laboratory in Dakar, Senegal for confirmation.
After the first report of the suspected cases in Bayelsa, the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole and the Executive Director of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Chikwe Ihekweazu, had called for calm among Nigerians saying the government is taking the required steps to manage the disease and to prevent further spread.
