Buhari, has approved the renewal of the tenure of six
chief executive officers of federal agencies.
Buhari also approved the appointment of two
new chief executive officers of federal agencies
and one senior special assistant.
The appointments are:

for the office of the national chairman of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams
Oshiomole, has said that former President
Olusegun Obasanjo should be arrested and sent
to jail if found guilty of any offence.
Oshiomhole spoke in a pre-June 12 event he
organized in honour of late Chief Gani
Fawehinmi SAN and acclaimed winner if the
June 12 1993 Presidential Election, Bashorun
MKO Abiola, The Nation reports.
The former governor dismissed reports credited
to ex-President Obasanjo that President Buhari
wanted to frame and arrest him.

He added that when Obasanjo was in power, he
also arrested and detained people, thinking that
he would be president forever.
Oshiomhole said Chief Obasanjo should be
investigated and sent to jail if found to have
dipped his hands in the pie.
He said: “Gani is not here today, but his spirit is here.
Falana is here and today, I am standing. Even the president
who was in charge then, he is now complaining that they
want to harass him. He was harassing me and he got me
arrested. He thought he himself would not be arrested?
“If I were the president, I would arrest him. We are all
Nigerians. I remember one day I told him, I said ‘President
Obasanjo, we made you president. You did not make me a
Nigerian. You are our creation; I am not your creation. You
must listen’.
“But he thought he would be in power forever and he tried
to take us on the way to Zimbabwe. He was a reluctant
Head of State, became president for two terms and he
wanted to do a third term because a cockroach licking
palm oil would never lick enough.
“I remember when I was accused by former president
Obasanjo of behaving as if I was an alternate president;
that I was running the NLC like a parallel government, that
I wanted to overthrow his government. A small man like
me, completely powerless.
“If I am dark like this, it is because of Obasanjo’s teargas.
When I now hear these same people saying they are trying
to arrest them, why shouldn’t they be arrested? He should
be arrested if he has committed any offence. He arrested
many of us.
“So, if we are celebrating Chief Gani Fawehinmi, we have
compelling reasons to do so. In all of these, we didn’t pay
any money to Gani or Falana. They defended us pro bono.
“The late Abiola would be smiling not just for the honour
done him by the president, but that Frank Kokori who was
very young then, deployed the instrumentality of oil
workers to support the progressive mission of the civil
society.
“It is not the position you occupy, but the role that you play
that will define your place in history. This man was never
an NLC president, but he is the only unionist invited to the
investiture.
“So, we just consulted among ourselves, few of us who
benefited from Gani’s leadership by using the instrument of
the law to confront evil leaders. At the NLC, we were so
efficient at causing troubles, but too poor to procure the
services of legal titans like Gani and Falana, but who would
always come and defend us pro bono. So, we felt that on the
eve of his investiture, we should gather and celebrate him.
“On June 12, the late Abacha asked us to tell Abiola to do a
national broadcast to renounce his mandate. Pascal Bafyau
advised him to take the bail conditions because he got
information that the regime was ready to keep him in jail
indefinitely, but Abiola said he wouldn’t mind dying, that if
you are already in the river, you can no longer complain of
being wet.
“Abiola died, but Abacha also died and today,
Abiola’s children can go anywhere and say I am
Abiola. But I am not sure of other persons”.

EFCC boss threatened to deal with me - Senator Nwaoboshi

alarm

The senator representing Delta North in the
National Assembly, Barrister Peter Nwaoboshi,
has said what he is being persecuted for by the
EFCC is pure business transaction.
Nwaoboshi who made the claim while addressing
selected journalists in Asaba on Monday, June
11, said he would never be muzzled, cowed or
intimidated by anybody to keep quiet and betray
the leadership of the National Assembly since he
did not launder money except that EFCC boss,
Ibrahim Magu once threatened him.

He disclosed that his persecution by Magu’s EFCC
is because of his position and stand at the
National Assembly meant to curtail dictatorship
in Nigeria, allow rule of law to prevail, sustain
our democracy, allow dissenting voices and
encourage investors
Nwaoboshi who is the chairman of the Senate
committee on Niger Delta affairs, maintained
that the issue that led to his being arrested,
detained and arraigned in the court by EFCC, has
nothing to do with fraud and corruption,
His words: “If anybody thinks he can muzzle me or cow
me, he is wasting his time because I can never be cowed, I
can never be intimidated and I believe that justice will be
done; I believe in God and I will be vindicated at the end.
“I want you to be upright in your report. I never laundered
money; I am a pure business man. My company is paying
the loan, servicing it. When we finish the matter, Nigerians
will know whether money borrowed from bank and
guaranteed is a laundered one.”

Meanwhile, Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has
thanked Nigerians all over the country for their
support and encouragement towards the work of
the 8th Senate, since it was inaugurated three
years ago.
In a statement issued from Saudi Arabia where
he is on lesser hajj, Saraki acknowledged that the
achievements of the Senate would not have been
possible without the backing of Nigerians, who
have played a more active role in the activities of
the legislature since June 9, 2015.

Moshood Abiola who was adjudged the winner of
the cancelled June 12, 1993 election will be
posthumously awarded the highest Honour in

List of MKO Abiola's businesses ruined after June 12 presidential election

Without disputation, late MKO Abiola was a successful
businessman during his days, but so much turned
against him after his great financial fame and political
ambition went down the drain when in 1993 he was
denied the right to the presidential seat by the then
military head of states, General Sani Abacha.
MKO Abiola's investments cut across major
sectors in Nigeria's economy, such as banking,
telecommunication, education, aviation, oil and
gas. Most of these were at best drastically
affected and at worst put to an end with the
supposedly ill-fated June 12 presidential election.
Almost all his businesses collapsed twenty-five
years after his death. A list of some of Abiola's
defunct businesses are listed below, Vanguard
reports.

Habib Bank
The bank, which got its license to operate in
1982, was founded by Abiola and late Shehu
Musa Yar’Adua. It was formed in partnership
with Habib Bank of Pakistan, which holds 40
percent shareholding of the bank.
The bank lost its operating license in 2011 owing
to its inability to cope with the recapitalisation
scheme instituted by the Central Bank of Nigeria
(CBN) the same year.
Summit Oil
Summit Oil was an oil and gas firm formed by
the late business tycoon in 1990. The company
obtained Oil Prospecting Lease (OPL 205) and
was located at the Anambra basin, north of the
Niger Delta. Summit Oil was a top contributor to
Nigeria's oil and gas industry at the time.
However, after Abiola death, not much came out
from the OPL 205 in terms of actual production
even till presently. Economic experts report that
its license would have expired by now, with little
or no activity going on at the firm.
Concord Airlines
With so much expectation and funfair in the
Nigerian aviation industry, Concord Airline came
into existence in 1990. The airline, which had
close to four fokker27 aircraft and Abiola’s
private jet in its fleet, flew high with the
popularity of its owner.
Regrettably, before it could be counted among
the serious players in the sector, it flew into the
crisis that came after the 1993 presidential
election and met its doom.
Abiola Bookshop
What now remains of the once famous bookshop
located at No. 362 Herbert Macaulay Way in
Yaba area of Lagos, is a building, which
according to many, has not felt the stroke of
paint brush for many years. Visitors at the
bookshop reported that the premises is unkempt
and looks like a place left uncatered for.

Concord Press
Concord Press came to the media space in the
early 1980s. It rose to eminence soon after it was
established, with its sale of copies of daily news
amounting to more than 400,000 per day. It was
also a victim of ill-luck as it saw its fall soon
after the June 12 presidential election.
Banuso Fisheries, Berec Batteries and ITT company
The above-named investments which dealt in
animal husbandry, energy and communications
respectively, were also hugely affected after the
presidential election in 1993 went against late
MKO Abiola.

on Saturday, June 11. This move by Abiola cost
him his freedom and chance to rule as Nigeria's

Why IBB annulled June 12 election - Ezeife opens up

June 12 as democracy day by President Muhammadu
Buhari is self-serving

A former governor of Anambra state,
Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has given details into the
annulment of the June 12, 1993 which produced
late Moshood Abiola as president-elect.
Ezeife said Ibrahim Babangida who was the
military head of state at the time was under
threat to annul the election.
Vanguard reports that the former governor said
that many Nigerians were shocked over honour
awarded Abiola by President Muhammadu
Buhari over the price paid for the election
results. Ezeife alleged that many Nigerians have
known the government for negative things.
Calling for the honour of electoral umpire at that
time, Ezeife said Nigerians and her leaders are
yet to learn from lessons of June 12.

Ezeife: “ We have not learnt any lessons from June 12. But
what I am hearing now, it is as if nothing happened,
anything can repeat itself many times over before we learn
a lesson."
"It was a traumatic period especially for those of
us who were directly involved. As for the
importance of it, as you know a Muslim/Muslim
ticket cleared the whole thing including Kano
where the opponent came.
" So, nobody knows the whole truth but I was close to
Babangida and he was telling me that the military were
opposed to (the declaration of Moshood Abiola as winner of
the election). He said ‘will you like me to be killed?’ as if he
had recognised the victory of Abiola and that if he (Abiola)
is made president, people will kill him and kill the new
president.
"So I said this one it is your job to do it but protect yourself
as you do it. Of course he tried it didn’t work.
"So if we stand 20 years from now and look at this decision,
it will be commended, many people will commend it,
nobody will be opposing it. And now nobody is against the
President except that most people don’t believe that it was
done in the interest of the nation. Some people think it is
some plot to harvest Yoruba votes in 2019. It may not be
and it may also be.”

Describing the declaration of June 12 as Nigeria’s
democracy, the former Anambra state governor
said President Buhari’s actions are self-serving.
“This is too positive to be expected from there. What
normally you see is some negative actions that are not
popular but this one is a good one. That is where one
problem exists. Somebody conducted that election that was
so good and I think that it is the problem where we are
thinking narrowly or about our self-interest.
"If we are looking at June 12 and we recognize the
significance of June 12, the person who was the INEC man
who conducted that kind of election should have been
remembered along with Abiola and Kingibe and other
person. That is one indication that the look was not
comprehensive by its own merit.”
"I think a good decision should be applauded but should be
done well. I am sure any mistake can even be corrected
now. Of course I am not a lawyer, I have heard of
posthumous award and I don’t know what was wrong with
this one.
"But in a place where things are working, the government,
executive especially and the legislature will take glory in
doing the right thing and then do it together. But this one
was not done so. I have read comments but as I said I am
not a lawyer so I am not vast to comment in being able to
comment on that,” Ezeife concluded.
Meanwhile, previously reported that an
elder statesman and a leader of the Afenifere
group, Ayo Adebanjo, has said that Nigerians
from the southwest region will not be deceived
by the declaration.

Adebanjo said the declaration of June 12 as
democracy day is a political gimmick ahead of
the 2019 presidential election. He said even
though some people in the southwest have been
praising the move, it would not swing votes in
the president’s favour.

Key suspects of Offa robbery transferred to southwest for firearms recovery

Gang leaders of Offa robbery have been moved back
to southwest from Abuja by the police
- The move, according to the police, will enable them
in the investigations for the recovery of firearms used
in the robbery
- The gang leaders have also reportedly disclosed their
hideouts in five states in the southwest to the police
The Nigeria Police Force has moved the key
suspects of the April 5, 2018, Offa bank robbery
from the police headquarters in Abuja back to
the southwest to enable the recovery of firearms
used in the deadly robbery.
According to a report by The Punch, the gang
leaders have also revealed to the police five
hideouts where this firearms are hidden in
Kwara, Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Ekiti states.

southwest for the firearms recovery are Ayoade
Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola
Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran,

A source who spoke to the press said the gang
leaders are assisting police by leading them to
places where the firearms are being kept.
The source said: “We announced during the press
briefing in Abuja that we had arrested 22 suspects and we
paraded 15 while seven suspects are helping us in the
investigation and recovery of arms in the Southwest.
“When we are through with the investigation, we would
present all the suspects to the public. Opadokun and others
are alive and helping us with the investigation. Reports of
their death are false information emanating from the social
media.”
Police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, is yet to
comment on this.

The minister of education, Malam Adamu
Adamu, has urged teachers to ensure they were
qualified, licensed and registered before 2019 or
be flushed out of the classrooms.
Adamu gave the warning while monitoring the
2018 Batch A teacher Professional Qualifying
Examination (PQE) in Abuja on Saturday, June 9.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that
the no fewer than 22,000 would-be teachers sat
for the Computer Based Teachers PQE nationwide
which held from June 7 to 9.

Adamu, represented by Sonny Echono, the
permanent secretary, stressed that if teachers
were not qualified and properly equipped, the
products who are the students would also fall
short and ultimately the country will suffer.
“The person at the centre of it all is the teacher, not the
pupils and if the teachers are not qualified and properly
equipped then how can they give our children the best.
“So as a government we are insisting that we must raise the
standards; we must become like other countries of the
world.
“We have set a deadline for ourselves and we are going to
enforce it.
“If by 2019 you are not a qualified, certified and registered
teacher, you will be removed from our classrooms and we
will give the job to those who are qualified.
“It is an embarrassment to us that we have so many
qualified people without job and we are given the job to
people who are not qualified. It is insane.
”In the past, we did not have the right numbers, so we
appreciate that those not qualified helped us to meet that
shortfall, that is why we have given this time of grace, ” he
said.
He urged the teachers to continue to improve
themselves while their employers would do their
part to continue to train an retrain them.
The minister noted that some people were
opposing the use of computer based test, which
he said was not going to be scrapped.
According to him, all over the world, even
primary school pupils are using tablets and
devices.
Adamu said that the world was not going to wait
for Nigeria, calling on everyone to be vanguards
of upgrading the standards in our schools.
He said that there were some logistics
problems during the exercise, however, the
officials had been able to overcome them.
“We are overwhelmed by the number of teachers writing
the examination, which is a good problem to have.

“If we need to do a third diet, we will to it to accommodate
everybody,” he said.
Prof Josiah Ajiboye, registrar, Teachers
Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), said that
the examination was written in 42 centres across
the 36 states of the federation and the FCT
simultaneously.
Ajiboye, however, said that some states started
the examination on Thursday, June 7, due to the
number of candidates in those states sitting for
the examination.
He listed the states include Bauchi, Enugu,
Kaduna, Kano and Taraba.
”In Kaduna state, we have about 6,000 candidates, in Kano
about 2,000 candidates, in Enugu 3,600, and Taraba about
2,000 candidates.
“The examination will last for 60 minutes to answer 60
questions.
“We have been getting situation reports from the states
that all is moving smoothly."
Ajiboye said that the CBT exam was set based on
the different qualification of the teachers, which
include NCE, degree, masters and PhD holders.
He stressed that by 2019 any teacher who was
found in the classrooms not qualified, licensed
and registered by TRCN would be flushed out.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti state Head of Service,
(HOS), Gbenga Faseluka, has been given one
week to distribute promotion letters to the over
45,000 civil servants who recently sat for
qualifying interview and passed.
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti gave the one-week
ultimatum on Saturday, June 9, to Faseluka in
Ado Ekiti.
He also said that his administration was set to
fulfil an earlier promise of employing over 2,000
new hands into the state public service.

Nigerian pastor arrested for tearing and burning Quran in Kogi

A Nigerian pastor and his accomplice have landed in
trouble after they were reportedly caught destroying
a Quran in Ankpa, Kogi state.
The pastor who is yet-to-be identified and his
accomplice were caught red-handed tearing and
burning the Quran near the town’s central
mosque on Friday, May 8.
Their action made some residents apprehend and
beat them up and they almost got served with
jungle justice, but for the timely arrival of the
police. They were later dragged to the palace of
the King of Ankpa before being transferred to
Lokoja, the state capital.

As at the time of filling this report, the reason for
their action is yet to be ascertained.

In his testimony, the man mentioned that his
father is a district superintendent of a church in
Abuja which name he refused to mention for
security reasons. He also claimed that the former
governor of Ebonyi state, Dr Sam Egwu, is his
uncle.

As seen in the video which circulated on social
media, the man is vast in the Arabic recitations
and is captured bowing down in the video,
saying Allah is the greatest.

Recognition accorded to MKO Abiola and the June 12 struggle is long overdue - Shehu Sani

The senator representing Kaduna-central, Shehu Sani
lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for conferring
the honour of the Grand Commander of the Federal
Republic (GCFR) on late MKO Abiola
- The APC senator also criticised some names that
made it to the list of persons invited to late MKO
Abiola’s GCFR inauguration
- Sani pointed out that most of the invitees betrayed
Abiola in the course of June 12 battle
Senator Shehu Sani, on Saturday, June 9, praised
President Muhammadu Buhari for conferring the
honour of the Grand Commander of the Federal
Republic (GCFR) on late MKO Abiola, presumed
winner of the June 12, 1993 election, The Cable
reports
NAIJ.com gathered that the senator representing
Kaduna-central, in reaction to the news said
Buhari had done “what many of his predecessors
failed to do.”
However, he, added that the timing of the award
gives room for concerns that the move has a
political undertone.

Sani also faulted some names that made it to the
list of persons invited by the president to
Abiola’s GCFR inauguration.
He said: “The recognition accorded to Chief MKO Abiola
and the June 12 struggle by the PMB administration is
commendable. It’s long overdue. PMB has done what many
of his predecessors failed to do.”
“However, the timing of the recognition in an election year
raised issues that the recognition was not without motive. It
is a Golden box of honour containing a note of electoral
expectation from the South west.
“Honoring June 12 is appreciated but exploiting Abiola’s
name for 2019 election will splash oil on the pearl.
“Some of those invited and honored by the villa in the name
Abiola or June 12 were people who betrayed Abiola and
abandoned the struggle even when chief MKO was alive,
others even disowned, condemned and denied him in his
hours of need. There are judases of June 12 now honoured
in the name of Abiola”.
The Kaduna state noted the recognition of the
democracy heroes was not enough, adding that
the government must live up to the ideals of the
honourees.
Sani also said the south-west should not base
their votes for Buhari in 2019 on the honour the
president granted Abiola.
“The greatest honour the government can do to the spirit of
June 12 is to habitually respect the rights of Nigerians to
differ and to dissent without persecution, obey court orders
and prosecute the war against corruption without
discrimination,” he said.
“Honoring democracy heroes will make no meaning if we
don’t live up to the principles and noble ideals they were
identified with and upon which they lived and sacrificed
their lives for.
“Honoring Chief MKO Abiola and the June 12 struggle
shouldn’t be the only reason the south west or any other
part of Nigeria should re elect the Present Government; the
government must strive hard to end the mindless bloodshed
and violence in the country and must respect the rule of law
and rid itself of budding autocratic tendencies.

“There is the need for the National Democratic Coallition,
NADECO to reconvene immediately to guide the President
and the Parliament on how best to honour the June 12
struggle, to avoid the coronation of traitors along with
heroes,” he added.

FG denies witch-hunting past leaders

The federal government of Nigeria has denied
the allegation by former President Olusegun
Obasanjo that the administration of President
Muhammadu Buhari is plotting to frame him and
have him locked up in jail.
The minister of information and culture, Lai
Mohammed, in a statement issued on Friday,
June 8, said the Buhari administration is too
busy clearing up the mess of the past leaders and
has no plan to witch-hunt anybody, Tribune
reports.
Mohammed said: ”This administration will never
engage in a frame-up of innocent citizens. That is neither in
the character of President Muhammadu Buhari nor in that
of his administration. Only the guilty should be worried. To
paraphrase an African proverb, a man who has no wife
cannot lose an inlaw to the cold hands of death.

”The administration is also strongly committed to the tenets
of democracy, including freedom of speech and the right to
dissent. But we understand that those who, in their time,
were untethered to those principles would find it hard to
believe."
The minister also said he was curious that the
allegation of witchunting is coming barely a day
after President Buhari declared June 12 a
Democracy Day.
He said: "Apparently, the impact of this proclamation
was too much to bear by those who, through acts of
omission or commission, helped to deepen the wounds
inflicted by the blow of injustice that followed an election
that was widely acclaimed to be free, fair and credible,
hence they felt the need for a red herring that will distract
the nation.
"Added to that is the frustration brought about by the fact
that the contraption they have so much hyped as a freeway
to power has failed to gain traction. Faced with this double
tragedy, even the strongest of men may begin to succumb to
a figment of their imagination. They may start crying wolf
where there is none."

already heated polity in the land and urged
President Buhari to call the security agencies to

The statement reads: "I have received with serious
concern the purported alert raised by former President
Olusegun Obasanjo of an alleged plot by the government to
arrest him on trumped up charges.

"I am disturbed by this turn of events in our dear country
considering the huge price that was paid for us to have
democracy. I wish to advice that government and its agents
should retrace their steps to avoid aggravating the already
over heated polity.
"The alert by President Obasanjo is coming against the
backdrop of earlier alerts by some leaders, especially those
of the opposition of deliberate and orchestrated attempt to
intimidate and frame them up.
"I wish to state without equivocation that President
Obasanjo is a historical figure in Nigeria’s democracy and
that the primary purpose of government is to provide
security of lives and property of all citizens and residents
irrespective of their status, political affiliation, religious
inclination and ethnic leanings.
"Our nation has lost so much precious lives and property
that we can no longer afford to travel that road again.
"I wish to appeal to President Buhari to call the security
agencies to order in order to douse the tension in the land."

him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday
night.
Buhari explained further that the second reason
why he deemed right not to reply the letter was
that he and the former president were from the
same (military) constituency.
He, however, noted that Minister of Information
and Culture Lai Mohammed, who “disobeyed’’
him not to reply the letter, did a good job.
He observed that the reply by the minister
showed Nigerians the realities on ground when
the present administration assumed office in
2015 and its ongoing efforts to revive the
inherited damaged economy.
“I really appreciate how you choose this time during
Ramadan to come from across the country to see and
congratulate me for what we were able to do.

“We were constraint to explain our position when the
former head of state wrote a letter; Adesina was agitated
and wanted to immediately reply; I stopped him for two
reasons; first, he was much younger than me and Gen.
Obasanjo.
“Secondly, I am from the same constituent with Gen.
Obasanjo; so, I wouldn’t know how it will affect him if I
allow him to go wild or to go public, but when Lai
Mohammed came, I said he shouldn’t and he insisted. He
disobeyed me.
“He said I must allow him to talk; then, of course, being a
professionally information person, I listened to him and
asked him what are going to say.
“He said he was going to remind Nigerians where we found
ourselves when we came in as a government, where we are
now, what we have done in between with the resources
available to us.
“And I understand he did a good job because a number of
people rang me and said Lai Mohammed has done a good
job because I went public in several times.
“I said it is on record and I challenged anybody to check
from Europe, United States and Asia that between 1999 and
2014 the 16 years of previous administration there was an
average of 2.1 million per day of crude oil at the average
cost of 100 dollars per barrel,’’ he said.
The president said that he deliberately refused to
replace the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria
when his administration took over the mantle of
leadership of the country because he wanted to
give him the opportunity to salvage the economy
from its terrible condition.
Buhari, who thanked his teachers during his
primary school days for their efforts to inculcate
good morale to him and his mates, stated that
his administration would continue to invest
heavily in education to correct social ills in the
society.
He said further that his administration had
resolved to put money in the area of
infrastructural development to address
infrastructural deficits and subsequently ensure
speedy socio-economic transformation of the
country.
“It is now that we are struggling to put the structure on the
ground — the roads — to revive the rail and do the
standard gauge and try to spend objectively on power.
“If we put money in infrastructure, it will create
employment opportunities and then Nigerians will mind
their own businesses, they wouldn’t even mind what the
government is doing once the infrastructure is there,’’ he
said.
The president, therefore, reassured Nigerians
that his administration would continue to spend
more funds to upgrade the nation’s
infrastructural facilities.
He said that the government had also expended
more than N1.3 trillion on capital projects across
the country.
According to him, the government will continue
to ensure financial discipline, accountability and
effective supervision of government spending to
have solid infrastructure to enable the youth to
achieve their missions and objectives in life.

He thanked the members of the organisation for
their support and sacrifices, noting that none of
them had ever made any specific demand from
him.
In his remarks, the leader of the organisation,
Sen. Abba Ali, who narrated the achievements of
the Buhari administration in the last three years,
said they were on solidarity visit to the president
to further reassure him of their support.
He said that the organisation had established
offices in all the 36 states and 774 local
government areas of the country, while efforts
were being made to ensure the re-election of the
president in 2019.
Mrs Paulina Tallen, a member of the Board of
Trustees of the organisation, who spoke at the
event, assured the president that women would
massively vote for him and other candidates of
the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 general
elections.
She, nonetheless, called on the president to bring
more qualified women politicians and
professionals in government to address the
perceived marginalisation of women by APC-led
administration in the country.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has called
on former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, to
submit himself for probe by the President

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, June 9,
Fayose said the former president cannot make
his predicament a Yoruba issue and should prove
his innocence if accused of corrupt practices.
He advised Obasanjo to dismiss the allegations
against him by proving his innocence.

The governor stated that Obasanjo’s travails
were a welcome development now that he was
being dealt with by the Buhari administration he
supported during the 2015 general elections.
“ To me, former President Obasanjo should submit himself
for probe and trial. He gave us the impression that he is a
brave man who is not afraid of anything. He is a retired
general in the army who has seen a lot and should not be
raising alarms now," he said in a statement by his
chief press secretary, Idowu Adelusi.
Fayose stated that the former president had
described Buhari as the best man for Nigeria
while promoting him for the 2015 general
elections.
“In his book ‘Under My Watch’, Obasanjo said he prefers to
be jailed by Buhari rather than former President Goodluck
Jonathan being reelected into office. Now prison is
beckoning on him and he wants to dodge. He set up the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the
Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences
Commission (ICPC) and among others.
“Obasanjo even used those bodies to hound and lock up
many people including state governors, why is he now
afraid of being probed. Let him tell Nigerians how he made
his money. People can recollect the level he was before he
became president and how he left office.
“If Buhari is now telling the whole world that Obasanjo
stole money, it is incumbent on Obasanjo to prove his
innocence.

“Moreover, Obasanjo should stop giving the impression that
he is the leader of the Yoruba people. He is not. We have
more eminent people who qualify to be our leaders. And he
should also not try and sell any dummy that his travails are
that of Yoruba people. I have been tried a number of times
by the EFCC and faced the challenges as a man. He should
also do so."
Fayose said the whole scenario was laughable,
adding that he never knew Obasanjo could cry
out and act like a woman.
“In fact, I am laughing at the whole scenario. That
Obasanjo could cry out. I don’t know he can act like a
woman. It is amazing that he is behaving this way. If he has
anything to clarify, let him do that,” he said.
The governor noted that it was unfortunate that
some people failed to heed his admonition that
whoever brings and rides a tiger may end up in
its belly.

Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has alleged
that there is a plot by the President Muhammadu
Buhari administration to detain him indefinitely based
on false charges.
Premium Times reports that Obasanjo in a
statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi,
on Friday, June 8, claimed that the government
was planning to use fake documents and
witnesses against him.
The former president said the plot against him
would unfold in two stages among which is to
cause the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) to reopen investigation into
the activities of his administration.
He alleged that the Buhari administration was
also planning to use fake documents and
witnesses against him.

Obasanjo linked the alleged plot against him to
the re-enactment of the Abacha era in which he
was detained on false charges.
He claimed that he had been informed that his
name was on the government’s watch list, and
that the security of his life cannot be guaranteed.
The former president, however, stated no
amount of campaign of calumny or orchestrated
plot against him would deter him from speaking
out.
The statement reads: " Since Chief Olusegun Obasanjo
declared in his State-of-the-Nation Special Statement on
January 23, 2018, the desperation to frustrate, intimidate
and blackmail him into abandoning his divine mandate to
protect the rights of the people to better life and living
continued unabated and has even taken a bizarre dimension
‘"Impeccable security sources have alleged Chief Obasanjo’s
name is on their Watch List and that the security of his life
cannot be guaranteed. According to these informants, many
of who are in the top echelon of the Nation’s security
management and close to the corridors of power, the
operatives are daily perfecting how to curtail the personal
liberties of the former President and hang a crime on him’.
"Ordinarily, we would not have dignified these reports with
a response but for the fact that many of these informants
are not known for flippant and frivolous talks. Secondly,
this Government has demonstrably exhibited apathy, and in
some cases, encouraged by its conduct, daily loss of lives
and property in many States of the country, the office
cannot be indifferent.
“We are currently in a nation where the Number Three
citizen is currently being harangued and the Number Four
citizen is facing similar threat within the same Government
they serve. There is a groundswell of our nationals that live
in fear that they could be hounded, harassed, or even killed
as the battle for 2019 takes this worrisome dimension.
“For Chief Obasanjo, this is a joke carried too far and being
someone who do not act on unofficial information, he had
cautioned all informants and adopted a wait-and-see
attitude to the propositions allegedly being contemplated to
cow, cage and embarrass him.
“The content of the alleged beastly designs, it was learnt are
two-fold for now. One, to seize his International Passport
and clamp him into detention indefinitely, in order to
prevent him from further expressing angst on the pervasive
mediocrity in the quality of governance, economic
management and in the protection of lives and property by
the Government.
“But, since that could expose the Government to a swath of
international condemnation, embarrassment and outrage, it
is said that another plot being hatched is to cause the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-
open investigation into the activities of Chief Obasanjo’s
administration using false witnesses and documents. This
will be a re-enactment of the Abacha era in which Chief
Obasanjo was one of the principal victims’.

‘The same EFCC that had conducted a clinical investigation
on the activities of Obasanjo in and out of Government, it
was said, would now be made to stand down the existing
report that gave Chief Obasanjo a clean bill of health on the
probes are now to get him indicted, fair or foul for possible
prosecution and persecution like it is being done to real and
perceived opponents, enemies and critics of this
Government’.
"Dissent is a fundamental principle on which liberal
democracy is predicated. A true democrat must be ready to
live with and accommodate dissent and opposition. While it
is regrettable how the Government has sunk in its
shameless desperation to cow opposition, a resort to
blackmail, despotism and Gestapo-tactics being employed
by the goons of this Government would not hold water. And
no government ever remains in power forever.
"For the record, Chief Obasanjo reiterates his readiness to
face probe again after that of the House of Representatives,
the Senate, the ICPC, and the EFCC, but before an
independent, objective and credible panel of enquiry to
account for his stewardship in Government and beyond’.
"Chief Obasanjo reiterates that he has taken a principled
position to ensure that the ship of the Nigerian State does
not capsize and he remains steadfast in his resolve to turn
the tide of maladministration, poor economic management
and rudderless governance model that has tore Nigerians
apart on account of religion and ethnicity which is a great
threat to our democracy’.
"We would like the Government and its supporters to
understand that no amount of campaign of calumny, no
matter how well contrived, orchestrated or marketed would
deter Chief Obasanjo from calling a spade by its name. Chief
Obasanjo is a patriot whose sole agenda is to ensure that
the country’s unity, progress and democracy are not
negotiated on the altar of incompetence and provincialism
and mediocrity.
"It is important to point out that Chief Obasanjo is one
former President and Head of State who has engaged the
current administration privately and in a bilateral manner
on several issues of direct interest to the government and
other matters of national concern. That channel of private
engagement remains open and continues.
"However, should there be the need for public engagement,
the right to free speech will always be exercised and
jealously guarded, again in the best interest of Nigeria and
the government.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari’s
personal assistant on social media, Lauretta
Onochie, has mocked former president, Olusegun
Obasanjo, sequel to the presidential honour
conferred on late MKO Abiola.

following the honour bestowed on MKO Abiola.
The former president has been criticised for
failing to honour late Chief Moshood Kashimawo
Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12,

observed as Democracy Day in Nigeria as against
