Ghana bans construction of new petrol stations

Ghana bans construction of new petrol?stations?

The Ghanaian government has ordered for an immediate ban to the construction of fuel stations after a fire killed seven people last week.

On Thursday, October 12, 2017 President Nana Akufo Addo outlined measures to stop explosions at petrol and gas stations.  Twenty fuel stations have already been closed this week and Ghana’s National Petroleum Authority plans to recruit 200 auditors to check fuel stations' safety standards.

Ghana has had eight fuel station disasters in the last three years. The deadliest was in June 2015 when more than 100 people died after an explosion in the capital.

'Your speech is baseless, decertifying the deal will only isolate your country' -Iran's president blasts Trump over threats to cancel Nuclear deal

On Friday night, US president, Donald Trump held a press conference where he threatened to withdraw from Iran's Nuclear deal if the U.S congress doesn't make corrections and adjustments to the accord.
The 10 year Nuclear deal formed by the Obama Administration, ensures that Iran stops its Nuclear program for grants and aids from the U.S government, but Trump says the deal is the most 'one sided deal he's ever seen' and believes Iran is the only beneficiary from the deal.
Trump also claimed in his speech that Iran hasn't been complying with their own part of the agreement but IAEA, the UN nuclear watchdog that monitors nuclear programs, says  that Tehran has been complying with its obligations under the deal.
"The claim by the president of United States regarding Iran's non-compliance has no international relevance or credibility, since the IAEA, as the sole authority to conduct such monitoring and verification, has repeatedly confirmed Iran's full compliance with its commitments," Iran's foreign ministry said.

Just minutes after Trump's press conference, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani,  made a live address saying that the US President could not decide the fate of the deal on his own as the deal was agreed with the UN Security Council not just the United States.

"This is an international, multilateral deal that has been ratified by the UN Security Council. It is a UN document. Is it possible for a President to unilaterally decertify this deal? Apparently, he's not in the know."

He said aggressively : “What we heard tonight was a repeat of the same baseless accusations and insults that we’ve heard over the past 40 years. It had nothing new; we weren’t surprised because for 40 years we’ve got used to these words. With your baseless speech you made our people more united.”

Rouhani went on: “Today, the US is more isolated than ever against the nuclear deal, [more] isolated than any other time in its plots against people of Iran.”

The Iranian president shrugged off Trump’s call for Iran to stop it's ballistic missile programme.

“Our missile and defence activities have always been important to us for our defence, and today it’s more important,” Rouhani said. “We have always made efforts to produce weapons that we need, and from now on we will double our efforts. These weapons are for our defence and we will continue strengthening our defence capabilities.”

Trump in his speech refered to the Perisian gulf as the Arabian gulf to which Rouhani blasted him further .

“How come a president has not yet learned the name of a famous gulf in the world, the same Persian Gulf that US vessels always pass through aimlessly?”

“He needs to study geography, but also international law. How come an international agreement that is endorsed by a UN resolution, which is a UN document … how a US president can annul such an international document?”

Trump received rapid support, meanwhile, from Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said  “ I congratulate President Trump for his courageous decision today” and for “boldly confront[ing] Iran’s terrorist regime”.CBBC

The South-East will benefit more from Road and Coastal Rail Projects - President Buhari

President Buhari on Friday assured stakeholders from the South East that the region will benefit more from roads and coastal rail projects, which are of critical importance to the economy.

Speaking at an audience with leaders from the region led by the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, the President declared that 2nd Niger Bridge, the East-West Road and the Coastal rail project, are receiving utmost attention from his administration.

The President said counterpart funding from the Chinese government would substantially fund these projects, which when completed will improve the welfare, well-being and economy of the people in the region.
``I know the Chinese are very competent in handling such projects and we will ensure that we get the money for the projects to take off. I thank you for articulating your demands and I want to assure that we are doing our best for the country. If we can stop people from stealing, then there will be more resources to put into projects that will create employment for Nigerians,’’ the President said.

Responding to allegations of under-representation of Igbos in his government, the President said: "I gave south-east four substantive ministers in the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Investment, Science and Technology and Labour. Seven states in the North got Ministers of State and of the two Ministries headed by your sons, I cannot take any decision on foreign policy and investments without their input,’’ he said.

The President also promised the leaders, comprising governors and ministers from the region, the President of Ohaneze, Chief Nnia Nwodo and representatives from the National Assembly, that he will visit states in the zone soon.

"I want to assure you that I came into government with a clear conscience and I will also leave with a clear conscience,’’he said.

Donald Trump in fiery speech threatens to withdraw from Iran nuclear deal, unless congress and allies fix major flaws that don't favour America

Donald Trump in fiery speech threatens to withdraw from Iran nuclear deal, unless congress and allies fix major flaws that don
U.S president, Donald Trump on Friday night, said he would stop certifying Iran's Nuclear agreement with the United Nations to Congress, and he would totally cancel the US' participation in the 'one-sided' deal unless Congress amends the deal to fix up major flaws agreed with the Iranian government by Obama's administration.

In Trump's hardcore speech on Friday, he first of all listed Iran's alleged crimes committed for over a decade and said he would no longer certify the Nuclear agreement agreed by Obama's administration to Congress, but he stopped short of cancelling US participation in the deal- following advice from his top administration officials, and major European leaders.

''Based on the factual record I have put forward, I am announcing today that we cannot and will not make this certification. We will not continue down a path whose predictable conclusion is more violence, more terror and the very real threat of Iran’s nuclear breakout,” Trump said.

Trump faced intense pressure from European allies to maintain the US commitment to the Nuclear deal and even his national security advisers encouraged him not to withdraw from the agreement, which was signed by the US along with Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China, the European Union and Iran in 2015. Trump in threatening to withdraw from the deal, is in line with one of his major electoral promises to the American people.

"We cannot and will not make this certification. We will not continue down a path whose predictable conclusion is more violence, more terror and the very real threat of Iran's nuclear breakout," he said. "I am directing my administration to work closely with Congress and our allies to address the deal's many serious flaws so that the Iranian regime can never threaten the world with nuclear weapons."
'The deficiencies of the agreement included sunset provisions under which limits on Iran's nuclear program will begin to expire.'
"As I have said many times, the Iran deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into," Trump continued.

Trump also stated that the deal doesn't  tell Iran to abstain from conducting missile tests.
Trump also ordered the Treasury Department to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with sanctions for their terrorist activities .
“In the event we are not able to reach a solution working with Congress and our allies, then the agreement will be terminated,” Trump said. “It is under continuous review and our participation can be cancelled by me, as president, at any time''
If the U.S pulls out of the deal, Iran could reconsider continuing it Nuclear enrichment program and cause a possible confrontation in the Middle East

Romance Scam: Two Nigerian nationals arrested in Bangkok for posing as rich Europeans to defraud women on social media (photos)
Two Nigerian nationals were arrested by The Immigration Bureau (IB) on Thursday, in Bangkok for allegedly running romance scams.
The suspects -- Lawrence Osita Nwaenyi, 32, and Peter Stanley Chukwuebuka, 33, were arrested at a condominium in Prawet district.
According to IB acting commissioner Suthipong Wongpin, the duo allegedly used social media and chat programmes to trick unsuspecting women into wiring money to them.

Pol Lt Gen Suthipong Wongpin said the suspects had opened Facebook pages using false identities. They posed as rich Europeans and approached and befriended female Facebook users.
If the women agreed to a chat, the suspects would make romantic overtures and express interest in investing in businesses with the victims.
In most cases, the IB acting commissioner said, the suspects told the victims they had gifts for them, sending them photoshopped pictures to make the scam look believable.

Other gang members would then call the victims, pretending to be either customs or embassy officials, to seek a fee for the delivery of gifts.
Many victims fell for the trick and wired money to the suspects' accounts.
The gang ceased contact with victims who became suspicious and would move on to find other people to hoodwink online.
Pol Lt Gen Suthipong said the two Nigerians spent most of their day working on the computer in their rented condo.
Police raided the room and caught the men red-handed as they were communicating with their victims, using chatting apps.
Police have charged Mr Osita with staying illegally in the kingdom and Mr Chukwuebuka with overstaying his visa.
They are reviewing evidence gathered from the condo to identify the victims, who will be interviewed later.
