U.S president, Donald Trump on Friday night, said he would stop certifying Iran's Nuclear agreement with the United Nations to Congress, and he would totally cancel the US' participation in the 'one-sided' deal unless Congress amends the deal to fix up major flaws agreed with the Iranian government by Obama's administration.
In Trump's hardcore speech on Friday, he first of all listed Iran's alleged crimes committed for over a decade and said he would no longer certify the Nuclear agreement agreed by Obama's administration to Congress, but he stopped short of cancelling US participation in the deal- following advice from his top administration officials, and major European leaders.
''Based on the factual record I have put forward, I am announcing today that we cannot and will not make this certification. We will not continue down a path whose predictable conclusion is more violence, more terror and the very real threat of Iran’s nuclear breakout,” Trump said.
Trump faced intense pressure from European allies to maintain the US commitment to the Nuclear deal and even his national security advisers encouraged him not to withdraw from the agreement, which was signed by the US along with Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China, the European Union and Iran in 2015. Trump in threatening to withdraw from the deal, is in line with one of his major electoral promises to the American people.
"We cannot and will not make this certification. We will not continue down a path whose predictable conclusion is more violence, more terror and the very real threat of Iran's nuclear breakout," he said. "I am directing my administration to work closely with Congress and our allies to address the deal's many serious flaws so that the Iranian regime can never threaten the world with nuclear weapons."
'The deficiencies of the agreement included sunset provisions under which limits on Iran's nuclear program will begin to expire.'
"As I have said many times, the Iran deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into," Trump continued.
Trump also stated that the deal doesn't tell Iran to abstain from conducting missile tests.
Trump also ordered the Treasury Department to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with sanctions for their terrorist activities .
“In the event we are not able to reach a solution working with Congress and our allies, then the agreement will be terminated,” Trump said. “It is under continuous review and our participation can be cancelled by me, as president, at any time''
If the U.S pulls out of the deal, Iran could reconsider continuing it Nuclear enrichment program and cause a possible confrontation in the Middle East
