The Federal Government says it will no longer condone further attacks by herdsmen in any part of the country. Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), gave the assurance at a meeting with some state governors in Abuja today January 8th.

The meeting had in attendance Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai, Niger state's Abubakar Bello, Benue state's Samuel Ortom, Darius Ishaku of Taraba state and Adamawa's Mohammad Jibrilla, IG of Police Idris Ibrahim among others.

He told the meeting that President Buhari remains committed to ensuring peace in every part of the country.

The Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, who also attended the meeting, said the clash between farmers and hersmen is becoming one too many. Ogbeh blamed criminally minded persons for taking the advantage of conflicts between farmers and herdsmen to cause mayhem in the country. He alleged that the past administration contributed to this present crisis by refusing to protect the interest of herdsmen when in office.
He further revealed the Federal Government’s plan to establish cattle colonies to be protected by cattle rangers, as well as provide water, pasture and security for such colonies.
