Oba Aladelusi, who spoke in Akure, the Ondo State capital, urged the president to raise a team of economic experts that could help proffer solutions to the depleting economic status of the country.
The traditional ruler said the country might be in dire need of a genuine restructuring that would help surmount the numerous challenges that are bedeviling the nation.
The Akure monarch made his remarks while felicitating with Muslims to mark this year’s Eid El-Kabir celebration.
Oba Aladelusi stated that the Nigerian federal government being led by President Buhari should wake up and look inward to find the best solutions to the staggering economy of the country which has impeded the country’s progress.
"I wish to implore the federal government to raise an economic team that could help proffer solutions on the ways to surmount these amalgams of challenges that tend to bring the economy to its knees.
"We cannot shy away from the need for a meaningful restructuring as a nation. The current imbalance in our fiscal federalism which has crippled some of the viable states should be addressed as a matter of urgency.
"We cannot pretend to assume that all is well when there are critical issues to be addressed.
"The government must, however, be strategic, proactive and timely in addressing some national issues at stake which could make or mar our continued existence as a strong and united Nigeria," the monarch said.
Oba Aladelusi also noted that the incessant attacks of Fulani herdsmen on farmlands and the people of Ondo State have become worrisome.
The Akure monarch said the government is not doing enough to curb the activities of the herders who attack, rape and subject innocent people to untold hardship.
He pleaded that it is high time the federal government take a closer look into the nefarious activities of the herders who are using grazing to cover up their atrocities.
