A soon-to-be married couple was left unconscious
and in need of emergency help after their attempt at practising a dance
move from the iconic "Dirty Dancing" movie went wrong.
Bride-to-be Sharon Price, 52, and fiance Andy Price, 51, were in a pub beer garden with family enjoying the sunshine in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, when Sharon's niece and nephew began messing around, trying to do the famous Dirty Dancing lift where Jennifer Grey leapt into the arms of Patrick Swayze and he lifted her above his head in the 1987 movie...Sharon and Andy, who have both watched the film more than 30 times decided then to practise the dance and do it on their wedding day, which is next year.
As their family watched, Sharon ran at Andy ready for him to lift her above his head but they both ended up flat out on the grass. Andy hit his head so hard he was knocked out while Sharon was bruised and unable to breathe. As they remained sprawled on the grass, their family thought they were joking. They eventually dialled 999 when it became obvious it was serious. Paramedics arrived and loaded Andy into an ambulance after cutting off his t-shirt. They switched on the blue lights as they rushed him to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Sharon said doctors laughed when she told them how the accident happened.
She recalled: "I have always loved Dirty Dancing and it is one of my all-time favourite films. We were in the beer garden and my niece and nephew were messing around trying to do the lift. So I looked at Andy and suggested that we have it as our first dance at our wedding. We immediately set about trying to recreate that iconic moment. But it's fair to say it didn't go to plan. When I ran at Andy he tried to lift me, but we just collided. At first, our family thought we were just messing about but they soon realised we had actually really hurt ourselves."She continued: "The paramedics were pretty worried about Andy and cut his t-shirt off and blue-lighted him up to Southmead Hospital. We are OK now but Andy has a bruised back and neck and my back still hurts."The couple, who are both grandparents, is doing alright but have decided to do a slow dance for their wedding. No lifting
