55 husbands narrate how their wives beat them to the Lagos State Government - Attorney General

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, Adeniji Kazeem yesterday, revealed that more men were now coming forward to report cases of violence against them by their women.

So far, a total of 55 husbands have reported to the Lagos State Government how their wives battered them in the last eight years in renewed cases of domestic violence in the state.

Kazeem, who is the chairman, Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, said there had been 55 cases of men reporting domestic violence against them by their wives between January 2017 and now as against 14 that was recorded last year.

He also disclosed that between January and September 2017, a total of 852 cases of domestic violence and related cases were recorded in Lagos State, saying that out of the total number, there were 564 domestic violence cases, 60 defilement cases, 30 rape cases, 11 attempted rape, 123 child neglect and abuse cases, and 84 other cases.

He said the data revealed that most of sexual assault cases were perpetrated in the afternoon during weekdays, while corroborating that 95 percent of the perpetrators of sexual violence were known to the victims, which according to him, necessitated the need to embark on sensitization campaigns for parents on parenting skills and child abuse prevention tips as well as training for children on child’s rights, child abuse, safety and how to preserve evidence. While some of the cases have been charged to court, Kazeem said the State Government through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and other stakeholders, provided shelter for the survivors.

There is a growing confidence urging people to speak out more, there is an astronomical increase in reporting of cases in the media. Lagos has indeed revolutionized the way sexual and gender based violence is being tackled in Nigeria with all the pioneering initiatives of Governor Ambode,” Kazeem said.

Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes finally confirm relationship five years after clause in Tom Cruise divorce "blocked her from dating publicly"

Hollywood's most top secret couple Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes finally confirmed their relationship as they packed on the PDA while at a beach in Malibu on Monday.
They had allegedly been together since 2013, about a year after her split from Tom Cruise, however, they had to keep their relationship secret because a clause in her divorce settlement allegedly barred her from dating publicly for at least 5 years. For this reason, Katie and Jamie kept their romance hidden until now. Their outing at the beach is the first time they've been seen being affectionate with each other in public.
The two have taken extraordinary measures to keep their relationship secret. Katie was seen with a ring on her finger in March 2016, but Foxx's rep said it wasn't from him. A year before that, Jamie denied they were together. Still, the relationship was no secret to most in Hollywood.
But there was no hiding their feelings for one another as they held hands and laughed together while walking along the sand in Malibu on Monday.

Nnamdi Kanu's agitation for the creation of Biafra is nonsense, we don't need a second war- Edwin Clark says

Elder statesman and notable Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark, has described as 'nonsense', the agitation for the creation of Biafra by IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu and other agitators. Clark who said this when he received the chairman of the senate committee on Local and Foreign Debt, Shehu Sani, at his home in Abuja. said Nigeria does not need another Biafran war where a lot of people lost their lives. Kanu and his group have been in the vanguard for the creation of Biafra. They have even threatened to boycott the Anambra state governorship election if they do not get a referendum for the creation of Biafra.
Clark who was displeased by Kanu's agitation, said “When Kanu talks about Biafra, he is talking nonsense. We do not want a second war. America fought their civil war for a long time and they are not thinking of a second one. Kanu should drop the agitation".
He condemned the Northern youths for issuing the quit notice on Igbos residing in the region
"At the same time, it is arrogant and foolish on the part of some Northern youths to issue quit notice. You do not own the North. It is part of Nigeria and anybody can live there. The Igbo have been living in the North for over 100 years. We have been living together since 1914 and from time to time, we have been changing the way of our lives. In 1947, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe said the Richard Constitution was obnoxious; that it was anti-people. In 1950, we had the Macpherson Constitution, which created the three regions and in 1963, we had another constitution. During all these constitutions, the issue of the fiscal federation was very prominent. So, we have been restructuring this country and nobody talked about breaking up the country. The war between 1967 and 1970 was an unfortunate one.

Police reveal identity of school boy who stabbed his classmate to death for refusing to give him 'biscuits'

A school teenager who stabbed his classmate to death in 2015 for refusing to give him 'biscuit' has been identified as Daniel Stroud.
Daniel Stroud from Aberdeen, Scotland whose identity was hidden for nearly two years due to reporting restrictions was uncovered on Tuesday, the same day he turned 18.
The 18-year-old who celebrated his birthday behind bars is said to have stabbed his schoolmate Bailey, 16 through the heart in a row about biscuits in the corridor of Cults Academy, Aberdeen.
During his murder trial in 2016, the part-time McDonald’s worker said he was constantly teased about being fat and took weapons to school to try and impress the other kids.
In an interview with cops played to the jury, he said: “I never fitted in. I was just trying to be cool.”
During the interview, filmed hours after Bailey was killed, Stroud burst into tears as he spoke about family problems. He revealed how he contacted his parents and told them he loved them as he waited for cops to come and take him from him the school.
Bailey and Stroud reportedly clashed during their lunch break at the top state school in October 2015.
Friends said Bailey, who dreamed of becoming a marine, refused to give Stroud a biscuit. And the pair squared up when someone called Bailey’s mum Kate “fat”.
SUN Online reports that moments later, Stroud stabbed Bailey with an eight-inch pen knife and he collapsed moments later in front of horrified teachers and kids. Experts said Bailey was doomed because his injuries were so severe.
Daniel Stroud was later handed a nine-year jail sentence for killing Bailey and carrying weapons in school

Poland seeks extradiction from Italy of 16-year-old Nigerian, Congolese and Moroccan nationals for gang rape of tourist

Poland's Deputy Justice Minister Patryk Jaki on Monday September 4, said the country will seek the extradition from Italy of the four suspects including a Nigerian teenager in the gang rape of a Polish tourist on a beach in the Italian resort of Rimini.
Jaki said that the four should face a very severe punishment to discourage others from committing such crimes.
The suspects are a 20-year-old Congolese asylum-seeker, two Moroccan brothers, aged 15 and 17, who were born in Italy and a 16-year-old Nigerian reportedly born in Italy.
They are being held in Italy. Polish authorities have opened their own investigation into the attack. The suspects are also accused of also beating the Polish woman's partner unconscious and robbing them.
The four are also alleged to have raped a Peruvian woman on the same night in a separate incident. It's not immediately clear if Italy would agree to extradition.
"I don't want to jump to conclusions now," Jaki told state Radio.
Jaki said the four, if found guilty, should "face very high punishment as an example, because the punishment should be preventive and make others think seven times before they try to commit such a crime."
According to Italian media, all four have denied any role in the attack, but reports in Poland say a watch belonging to the partner of the raped Pole was found on the Congolese suspect.
Cristina Ugolini, the head of a center assisting migrants in Pesaro, where the Congolese suspect was assigned, told Sky TG24 TV he had been granted "humanitarian protection" in September 2016 and attended the center until April 2017, without providing any cause for alarm.

Dr. Solomon Yusuf who is one of the four University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) lecturers abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Magumeri, Borno State on July 25th in Borno state, has written a letter to his wife, Hannatu, lamenting the failure of Federal Government to ensure their release from Boko Haram captivity.
Recall that Yusuf and three other lecturers were ambushed and kidnapped while obtaining soil samples for hydrocarbon exploration around the Chad Basin. The exploration was being coordinated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The lecturer's lamentation was contained in a letter from captivity sent to his wife, Hannatu which was obtained by SaharaReporters. Part of the letter reads
"I want to emphasize that delay in getting our freedom poses risk to our dear lives. We never expected we would spend over 42 days (as at 4 September) in captivity because the project has presidential orders to explore hydrocarbon in the Chad BasinThe government should please continue negotiating with the present contact given to them by the University of Maiduguri as a means of contacting soldiers of Khalifa under the leadership of Abu Mus'ab Albarnawi. We plead with the government to treat our freedom with all sense of urgency and sympathy so that that we can be reunited with our families. The use of force is a serious threat to our lives," he pleaded.

French celebrity magazine, Closer has been ordered to pay £92,000 in damages to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for publishing topless photos of Kate Middleton.
The case dated back to September 2012 when William and Kate were pictured relaxing on the terrace of a chateau belonging to the Earl of Snowdon, William’s cousin and the late Princess Margaret’s son, in the southern region of Provence.
According to reports, long-lense cameras caught Kate displaying her breasts while only wearing a skimpy pair of bikini bottoms. One intimate picture also published showed William rubbing suncream into his wife’s skin.
It was also reported that the angry couple considered £1.4million from French Closer magazine appropriate compensation for the upset and embarrassment caused by the photographs being distributed around the world.

The sixth defendant was Marc Auburtin, the 57-year-old publishing director of La Provence at the time the pictures were taken.

"I don't enjoy being single, it's not something I wanted": Angelina Jolie opens up in new interview

Angelina Jolie recently had an interview to promote her new movie 'First They Killed My Father' and she made some revelations.
Speaking to Telegraph in a Beverly Hills hotel suite, the actress revealed what her life has been like since separating and filing for divorce from Brad Pitt last September.
She said: "This is the first time I have done this for a long time. It’s not easy. I am a little shy this time, because I am not as strong inside as I have been in the past."
On being a single mother-of-six, Jolie said: "I don’t enjoy being single. It’s not something I wanted. There’s nothing nice about it. It’s just hard. Sometimes maybe it appears I am pulling it all together, but really I am just trying to get through my days."
Asides handling her divorce, the 42-year-old has had to deal with what she described to The Telegraph as "some other health issues."
She said: "So my health is something I have to monitor."
Jolie underwent a preventative double mastectomy four years ago and later had her ovaries removed. Earlier, she opened up to Vanity Fair about her recent struggles with hypertension and Bell’s palsy, which caused one side of her face to droop. She used acupuncture to manage her condition, but says that perspective has been the best medicine.
Jolie told The Telegraph: "So much in life you just focus on how much worse it could be. And I am so happy I don’t have cancer, and that if I do get it, it will be delayed for a few years. The exchange for that peace of mind is quite good. I feel sometimes that my body has taken a hit, but I try to laugh as much as possible."
She explained that she's had to be strong because of her kids who keep her looking for the silver lining.
"We tend to get so stressed that our children feel our stress when they need to feel our joy. Even if you are going through chemo, you need to find the ability to love and laugh. It may sound like a postcard, but it’s true."
She continued: "The children have been amazing. It’s been so moving to see how much they have helped each other and how much they have helped me. They have really come into their own and they are finding themselves and their voices. I know that they will have each other for life and it gives me great peace to know the day I pass away that they will take care of each other."
As her kids continue to grow, Jolie believes it may be time for her to "rediscover a little bit of the old me."
"I think we lose our way a bit. I have had a lot happen in my life, from certain people passing to health issues to raising the children," she said. "And it’s been a very good time to absorb and develop and grow. But maybe now that my kids are growing up I am starting to realize that my own sense of play has been put on hold for a while. And maybe them hitting their teens is going to bring out a little more fun in mom.
